My special place

My special place

Well yesterday certainly threw everything off track. But thanks to some very thoughtful and kind people I was able to get threw it and continue.

I cannot say a lot about what happened as I am sure you all understand but need this support in place.

Things WILL be ok, just a lot to work out.

Psych visit yesterday sorted out some of the things and more things will be happening early next week.

I am sorry if I put anyone through any despair, but unfortunately what happened yesterday morning had to be done.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Re: My special place

Good afternoon @Wintersweet

Went and saw mum before. She is forever complaining about others, like she is so perfect.

Those visits tire me out so quickly.

Came home, stuffed up.

Self compassion is extremely hard. It is so easy to have that compassion for others, but when it comes to ourselves, it is completely different. It is something that I and my psych have talked about quite a few times. Whilst I think I have changed a little, I defiantly have a long way to go.

How is your day going?

Re: My special place

@Snowie

I think anyone who doesn’t enjoy talking badly about others finds it really exhausting to listen to other people talk that way. I’m not surprised it’s super draining for you, let alone all the other things that I know come with seeing you mum. Not sure how you feel about virtual hugs but there’s one here for you if you want it along with a lot of compassion for how things are for you right now 💛

Trigger warning just for more thoughts on self-compassion in case it feels like too much for today, which is ok!

Content/Trigger warning: Self-Compassion
I think we’re often taught compassion for others but learn to be critical of ourselves in an attempt to protect ourselves from criticism by others (among many other reasons). I really like Kristin Neff’s thoughts on overcoming blocks to self-compassion. I think there’s videos on YouTube where she talks about them and she also writes about them under “myths” on this website: https://self-compassion.org/what-is-self-compassion/ No pressure to look at it though. It can be a tricky subject so I just thought I’d share the link in case it’s a useful reference. I really appreciated one of the videos I saw that talked about why the blocks to self-compassion exist in the first place and how a psych might show compassion for the parts of the client that are scared of self-compassion, address their fears, and walk with them if they decide they’re ok with trying self-compassion instead of self-criticism. I think taking the time to understand what’s causing the block, and dealing with that first, sounds much more helpful than just “be more self-compassionate”. I can really empathise with finding it hard and know there can be so many reasons for that. I do think change over time is possible, but it’s not quick, which is ok and I hope your psych can keep supporting you with it 💛

Re: My special place

Hi @Wintersweet thanks for the virtual hug 💗💗much appreciated

Just as an example today my mum told me two new nurses had started. He words were they are nice but both very big. I'm not sure what their size has to do with how well they do their job! Have a lot more lines like that!

I don't think it helped growing up in a household where I was always told what was wrong with me or what I did wrong. Appearances were a very big deal growing up. It had to look like the perfect family from the outside. Very far from the truth.

Thanks for all that information. I will defiantly explore that website.

It sounds like you have done a lot of research into self compassion. I hoped that it has helped you.

You are very knowledgeable about many different topics. Your ability to help others is really nice to see.

Re: My special place

Aww, thanks @Snowie !

I hope you find it helpful too.

I have to be quick as I need to get to my psych appointment but the pressure of maintaining the image of a perfect family when things aren’t good would be enormous. Having to listen to your mum talk about people that way, especially with the background, would be super uncomfortable!

Sending you 💛

@Snowie

Thank you! It actually did even after I was really worried it wouldn’t.

I hope you’re able to get some better sleep tonight 💛

Re: My special place

@Snowie

I hope today goes well for you 💛

I’m thinking of you with the ongoing bad sleep. It makes everything so much harder when we can’t sleep and I know things are already really hard.

Do you have much on today/over the weekend?

I wanted to message you now as I’ll likely have poor internet connection again today but I’ll check back when I can. Sending you 💛

Re: My special place

Thanks @Wintersweet

Been awake since 5:30

Spoke to podc this morning. Blurted out a lot. Guess you could say he was worried. Had to promise a few things. Now I need to try and keep it.

Not much planned for the weekend.

I hope you day goes well 💗

Re: My special place

@Snowie

Well done for continuing to tell your pdoc stuff. Was his response what you’d have hoped for or was there have been something else that would have been more helpful?
