Daily goals, motivation and check in

Daily goals, motivation and check in

I'm starting this discussion as a place where we can set our goals daily, help motivate each other to do them and then check in with how we went. It's a place to celebrate when we achieve them or just sit with each other if we didnt and are feeling down about it. Hopefully with encouragement and support from each other we'll tick lots of boxes for our daily goals and feel good about it. Please join in. 😊

Note* Ive just started this thread again so it will be visible. Once I deleted my account it no longer shows up.

please join in again if and when needed.

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

Honestly, @TheVorticon, the time of day is only a construct made to assist everyone in fitting into an agreed upon schedule. I'll bet your biscuits were a great success!

@frog @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Teej

My schedule is way out of that time construct and I've finally realised not only do I not have to forgive myself for not fitting into everyone else's schedule, but I don't even need to keep to any schedule but my own if I feel like it. Appointments and stuff I make allowances for, but they too need to fit with my sleep/ wake schedules as far as possible.

I washed and used the dryer from 10pm to 2am last night - because I decided I wanted to wear that really comfy nightie to bed again, and if I was going to wash that, then I'd do all the washing.

I love having my new dryer! it has reduced the tension of life for me in untold ways, especally now there is practically no sun at all on the clothes line.

@frog I hope you're feeling a bit better now, and thank you for your kind words. I don't know how long this will last, but it's nice while it is, that's for sure.

I hurt my pinched nerves today repairing some crystal hangers with the jewellery pliers, so tomorrow will probably be migraine day. It's so easy to forget how much the simple things can go badly.

I achieved my goal of keeping the lighthearted feeling, and ... drum roll ...

I went for a walk outside the confines of the unit! I actually walked down the street and back again just on sunset, without any anxiety issues creeping in! Mind you, there was no one around, it was so lovely and quiet.

I hope each of you has an achievement of some kind to bring a smile to your face.

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope and @Former-Member. I actually did accomplish all the stuff I'd set out to do (it was a close call with the pokemon raid because they finish at a certain time each day).

Today, I'd like to decide on a new phone to buy. My old one is frustrating and laggy and it's worth the price of a new one to avoid the extra aggravation... but I need to decide just how much a smooth, seamless experience is worth to me. Last time I bought a high end phone and have used it for 5 years. I could do the same this time, or I could get something cheaper and risk that it frustrates me much sooner than the price difference to the point where buying multiple phones ends up being more expensive. But high end phones have increased by about $300 compared to 5yrs ago when I bought mine, and lots of people don't buy phones that are $300 let alone the remaining main portion of the price (but most people don't keep their phones for 5 years sooooooo...). Then I need to decide how much it's worth not having to make a purchasing decision every few years... cause if my time has a dollar value, I sink a lot into deciding about purchases >$100 and I don't think that time sink will change too much if it's $500 or $1000.
Spreadsheet time I guess 😕

Also ^... first world privileged problems central, yo.

Edit: Glad to see some data behind my memory of what things cost too. (As you can see, research is happening but no decisions are being made.) From a 2017 article:

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

Hi all,

sorry for the late response but I’m glad you find this thread helpful @frog. Thank you for saying so 😊

@TheVorticon I looked up that link re phones and thought it was interesting. I too am one that tries to keep my phones as long as I can. I think my general life of a phone is about 4-5 yrs too. I’ll be scared when my current one goes. I think the other thing to consider is how much it costs to replace a screen if you break it. The current price for the curved screens is about $450 to replace as one of my sons found out the hard way. Another of mine has a $300 Motorola which he loves but it’s not going to be long lived. He’s only had it for about 18 months and it’s starting to play up 😣.

@Former-Member You have been such a positive influence lately in me with trying to be more consistent and positive. I have read most of your posts and find them inspirational. For me personally it always gives me a lift when I see someone else doing better too (unless I’m in the very bottom of the dark hole, then nothing does). @Bunniekins has been inspirational too.

@Faith-and-Hope here’s the boxes I was talking about. (Complete squirrel point but I can’t help but talk in Monty python at the moment as I watched it the other night with one of my sons. I wanted to write 'here are my boxes three, there shall be no more than three, and three is the number of the boxes........five is right out 😳😂).

So on my ramble this is my reflection. It is so much easier to push yourself to stay more on track when you can see the light and are doing ok climbing out of the hole.

Ive start going back to my list app. Every morning I am reordering it depending on my mood and new things that have arisen. So on the weekend I had a list of 23 things one day and 27 the other. Bear in mind that boxes range from have a coffee to food shopping and other things. Anyway on Saturday I achieved 13 of the things on my list which is huge for me and sunday 16. Monday I Think it was about 10 too. Yesterday was a down feeling unwell day and i only ticked 2 but was confident today would be better and it is thank goodness.

I’m finding using my grid diary I talked about on that thread is really helpful and I am looking to it to add being in the present things to it throughout the day, except for yesterday 😔. And for the big tick I had managed to get out and walk the dog for 7 out of 9 consecutive days which is heading for a record. I really struggled so much to do it for the first few days but it is getting easier, except for yesterday when I’ve decided non human days are just days to stay still and hold on. And dog is loving it.

So today I have a list of things but I’m going to prioritise a bit (whoa there’s a word that usually I struggle with but seem to be doing better with too). I know this can’t last but I’m going to try while the going is good.

Good luck to anyone who is working on achieving something today even if it is just getting through the day.

My motivation image lol 💜🤗

Wtg @Teej ..... ❣️

I will return for the image.

I try to take a rest day once a week ...... six busy days to one veg day ..... the veg day is where I cheerfully put things off to other days, and 2-3 ticked boxes is around where it should be (more if they are smaller baby steps).

Allowing yourself a slow day each week might help to keep a higher no. of ticks on the other days @Teej ..... and it doesn’t have to be a scheduled day either ..... just a rain-cheque to keep up your sleeve for the days that just don’t move very far or fast. Just call them a rest day, and move forward with it.

One of my dragons has a favourite quote .....

“When things fall down, just yell PLOT TWIST and keep moving ..... “

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

What a delightfully motivational image @Teej! So pretty.

It's lovely to read how you are doing @Teej, no matter how it is that you are doing, but so pleased to read you are going so well. Your app is truly working for you and my wee listings are working for me to not only get things done, but to recognise what I have done (which is often a real issue for me). Go us!

I love your 'boxes three', that's so funny. I'm not a full on fan of Monty Python, but there are some truly funny bits from their works, and I've always enjoyed John Cleese, especially in Fawlty Towers. There is something about them that trips the brain cells into laughter.

Like you, I know this brightness won't last forever, but it's nice being able to enjoy it for now with all the little added on bits of things that I'd forgotten I knew.

The days where not much is done are okay too you know, because there's usually 'thinky' stuff and that uses a bit of effort and energy too. Rest days are allowed too you know! That's an important factor for me, to allow myself rest days or times. I'm getting better at allowing it instead of being cross when I have to take a break.

You're very inspiring yourself Teej, thank you for being there. I enjoy reading your posts too, thank you for the tag.

Waves hello to @Faith-and-Hope @TheVorticon @frog @Former-Member and anyone else who wanders by. Wishing you the type of day you want for yourself.

Re: Daily goals, motivation and check in

Hi @Shaz51 thank you for asking - tired today. There's a weird sounding creature next door that makes an unholy racket (not sure what a holy racket would be) from first light. They must have put it in a metal box or something yesterday and the banging and bashing of metal on metal this morning was really hard to sleep to, not to mention the weird sounds. I initially thought it might have been a rooster that either hadn't yet learned to crow, or that had a crowing band, but it's a sound I cannot identify.

I can't see over the fence. I might just have to get the step ladder and pretend I'm looking at my own roof or something to check out what it is!

There was more metal being sawn today, so maybe a new and hopefully better solution. The chooks have settled down, but this creature is not settling at all, and is very, very noisy much of the day. Weird sqwarking unlike anything I can identify - maybe a goose/ gander, but a cranky one!

Had a major win today - got tired of the sleep study data problem - rang their head office - head office not happy - 2 hours later a phone call telling me problem had been found and fix is in express post bag on the way to the pharmacy. Telstra hardware breakdown, techs not properly identifying it, heads apparently have rolled.

I will be kept posted about things being up and running, and an appropriate appointment will be made.

I feel pretty pleased with myself for moving things forward for my own self when it was not my 'place' responsibility to do so.

Oh, darn that washing machine! I hope it gets fixed in good time for you. Things breaking is so annoying.

How are you going yourself @Shaz51? I hope you're looking after yourself, you do a lot ot care for others, I hope you remember to care for yourself as well.
