Twisted -self care

Twisted -self care

Every morning I drive east into the sun.
At traffic lights I put sunscreen on the backs of my hands.
This morning I realised that this is self care,
Very rare for me.
I need to do more of this....

Re: Twisted -self care

Yep ..... seeking out Greekness .... something to do with finding identity I think ...., and living parental dreams / expectations ..... all came with the new mindset - at least the obsessive-compulsiveness of it. We have lived in Greece and visited regularly. This is mid-life-crisis-y ..... and locked in with other OCD and e.d. behaviours.

So he didn’t stipulate that you would live in a suburban Greek community @Faith-and-Hope?

Re: Twisted -self care

No @Catcakes ...., doesn’t want to live there ..... wants to travel. 2-3 hours a day to visit there .... then constantly harried cos he’s “time-poor” ..... :face_with_rolling_eyes:🤔🤨 .... not a lot of what is going on makes sense.

Re: Twisted -self care

I hear your frustration @Faith-and-Hope.
In a way I’m also living with someone who constantly expresses thoughts that are impractical and irrational and he gets cross when I point that out. But I understand that his whole life has changed through no fault of his own and it’s hard to adjust.

Re: Twisted -self care

Think ours started as maladjustment to early “retirement” @Catcakes, but the e.d. behaviours must have affected brain function. We have some “out there” distorted thinking driven behaviours going on, especially but not necessarily when highly distressed.

I’m pretty glad my partner had a few reasons to get out of the house today @Faith-and-Hope. I needed a break from distracting him.

Re: Twisted -self care

Yeah @Catcakes ..... now that the controlling behaviours have been pulled back in our situation, thanks to the mh team’s presence, there is relief in the amount of time mr. spends exercising cos it means he’s out of the house a lot, so the time he is with us is generally quality interaction (thankful for that much) ..... or he’s asleep.

He is exhausted, but can’t stop, other than skipping the occasional jog. He has switched to exercise bike in the mornings, so I suspect an injury has curbed him for the moment and he is going around it, whatever it is, but not stopping for recovery time as a true athlete would do.

Re: Twisted -self care

I’m just going to vent a bit here. Last Friday my partner went to the gp with troubling symptoms. The Gp thought it was serious enough to send him to emerg who agreed urgent investigation was warranted.
Sent home to await a bed/a phone call.
I phoned the hospital and spoke to investigating department who said “ we haven’t received his referral yet” ..... from the emergency department a couple of floors down .😡
