Twisted -self care
Every morning I drive east into the sun.
At traffic lights I put sunscreen on the backs of my hands.
This morning I realised that this is self care,
Very rare for me.
I need to do more of this....

Hi @Zoe7
Thank you for your accurate representation of the role of the moderators and the importance of peer to peer support that this community does so well.
Sleep tight everyone,

HI @Catcakes
I am sorry that you are not feeling so great at the moment... If you would like to talk to someone about whats making you upset tonight you could prehaps call some of the afterhour support lines like BeyondBlue or Lifeline, I am sure members of the community will continue to support you also.
Regards,
Kobe

The choice is entirely yours @Catcakes but I personally would not like to see you go. I have utterly enjoyed our previous conversations - especially our ten pin bowling one - still makes me smile thinking of you as a bowling ball and me as a pin waiting at the end of the loooong alley for you to come hurtling towards me lol
There are many reasons why a moderator may comment on one thread and not another - it definitely isn't personal - it may even be a follow up from a previous conversation. If a member is receiving support then moderators will tend not to interject unless a member's safety is clearly compromised, the thread is veering of it's intending topic or there is noticeable conflict between members that isn't being resolved.
Most of the moderators will reply to a post by a member if they are tagged specifically - but that does also depend on what is going on 'behind the scenes' as well - often there is a lot done 'off-forum' by the moderators that prevents them from being present on-forum - so in those times a 'like' may be all they can give in that moment - that like is to so 'I hear you and you are not being ignored'.
I do hope you reconsider later and continue to connect here on the forum but - as I said earlier - that is entirely your choice. Please know that you are welcome here anytime - and I certainly would miss seeing you around ![]()

Hi @Catcakes
I hope you had a restful night after logging off here.
The moderators work around the clock (literally.. the forums are moderated 24/7
) and at any one time could be:
- reviewing posts
- managing a situation where someone is at immediate risk of harm
- moving discussions to appropriate threads
- emailing members about a breach of guidelines
All of these happen 'behind the scenes' and aren't visible to the community, so I can understand why you may feel like we're not doing much.
As some of the others mentioned, first and foremost, this is a peer to peer support community. When a member comes to share their experience about their tough times, unless the post breaches guidelines, there is a duty of care concern or a new discussion has got no, or little responses, moderators allow peers to respond.
From time to time, you may also see moderators responding in more 'social' threads (like Friday Feast) when there's no pressing issues. We see this as an opportunity to build rapport with members - but we avoid posting heavily in issue based threads, because members came to this community to hear from their peers who have been through similar things, not mental health professionals.
In coming to this community, people want to hear how their peers managed similar experiences. But if someone comes to the community wanting one to one support from the mental health professional, they may be dissapointed because that's not what this space is for.
I hope this clarifies things for you and helps manage expectations in the future.
I will also drop you an email to check in.
Take care,
Nik
