Re: Any recoverying alcoholic or alcoholic in the forum

@Bubbles3 I can't imagine how hard it would be to stop with someone else drinking in the same house. It's amazing that you did that!

I'm aware of the dangers in stopping suddenly. I get shakes, nausea, agitated etc. but never had seizures... then again, I haven't gone more than about 15 hours without it since I got out of hospital 18 months ago so I guess I couldn't rule that out. I've been trying the taper method the last week or so. You're supposed to have beers (nothing stronger) spaced regularly according to how much you usually consume, and reduce them by half each day until you stop. It's supposed to make it safe with regards to physical withdrawals. I can't seem to make it work though. I have cut down but not as much as I was meant to and the last two days, even that was hell... then today, I've gone off the schedule big time (trying not to be too graphic/descriptive) starting at 10am. It was more than I could manage.

Anyway yes @MovinOn1 @utopia @Former-Member @Sahara it's really hard and shitty.

it is hard @-Rayne- but never giive up. you can do it.

im actually amazed that im even talking on this thread sometime because it does trigger me sometimes to start drinking again.

but dont let that stop yous from talking on here. yous need to talk about it and get help.

That's great @Bubbles3 how well you are doing. Yes, even if we have a drink or ten, it doesn't mean we have to stop giving up. Well done you.
It must be so hard to quit when your partner is still drinking. Just shows how strong you are.
Alot of people don't like the word alcoholic. They associate it as someone homeless drinking from a bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag. People like my dad, didn't believe you could be an alcoholic if you only drank beer.
I just tell those people not to get caught up in the words. Just say you have a problem with alcohol. It makes it easier for some people.

@Bubbles3. Don't worry about spelling. None of us do. When I'm really sick with depression, my memory goes and so does my spelling. When the doctor last put me on a certain medication, I couldn't remember how to spell 'the'. Imagine!

@-Rayne-. Today was a blow out. That doesn't mean tomorrow will be.
You are doing well. Keep persisting. Eventually you will get there. I'm proud of what you have achieved so far. Well done.

I am hoping that you are being monitored and advised by a trusted physician. I've not heard of the "Taper" method, and as an alcoholic, I can't have just one, so I wouldn't be able to do that at all. I find it hard to understand how someone would recommend this to an alcoholic.

Hi @MovinOn1
Can you share where you referenced the following from, in case people would like to read the full article -
"Research consistently shows that drinking alcoholic beverages -- beer, wine, and liquor -- increases a woman's risk of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. Alcohol can increase levels of estrogen and other hormones associated with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. Alcohol also may increase breast cancer risk by damaging DNA in cells.

Compared to women who don't drink at all, women who have three alcoholic drinks per week have a 15% higher risk of breast cancer. Experts estimate that the risk of breast cancer goes up another 10% for each additional drink women regularly have each day."

Thanks!
