So, I wanted to share with you my respite away from home that I'm hoping will unstuck the stuck me, and reset my neurological pathways to a different outlook. This place, in the burbs of Perth is a little haven of homeliness and gentle care. There's a small number of people here of various diagnoses, and we share rooms with same sex. So there's 2 other ladies in my room. It's a large home, and essentially you have to care for yourself. No one makes you do anything you don't want, but if you want to chat about life, your MI and get some perspective & guidance, there's nurses here 24/7. Obviously, you have to hand over your meds, and no drugs and alcohol are permitted.
The head nurse is a DBT Guru, something that @CheerBear, @Pheonix_Rising & @Zoe7 would love to have a natter with. He's very perceptive but gently proves and before i knew it, Id told him everything (well, a scaled down version). He said I was holding so much stress, more than most, and was surprised how 'normal' I presented. He recognised my recent high levels of anxiety, and how that was impacting my inability to feel comfortable with change.
I've been here since Friday afternoon. Saturday I had an anxiety meltdown, and thought it was nuts being here, and I was probably better to admit myself to hospital as I was very intent on doing major harm to myself. A phone call to my case manager set me right, plus a prn, and essentially riding out the storm. Sunday was a better day, where I walked to get a paper, stopped for a coffee, and also stopped at a greengrocer. Dinner was a communal affair on this night, and although conversation was minimal, it was nice to be among others. I haven't made any buddies here, as I've essentially kept to myself. But I took a walk yesterday with a patient & nurse, and I repeated the walk on my own today.
So I've agreed to be here until next Monday, as going home on the weekend could bring me undone. It's the time I feel most lonely and despair, and when my impulses to SH are highest. Every day I will do a little work with one of the nurses on DBT stuff especially interpersonal skills and distress tolerance skills.
The really great thing is I can come back here anytime things get unbearable & hospital isn't a option. And I can call the nurses if I'm distressed or in crisis as they know my history. It's good to have another support option. There is only two places like this in Perth. It's a shame there's not more.
Hugs and hugs big sis ❤ i hope todays a better day for you. I know weekends are hard for you ❤❤ @Sans911

Re: My mental health respite
@Faith-and-Hope I know that you are relatively close in distance, so it would be nice to have you sit nearby, and a hug would be super appreciated. Even better with a real coffee. Sigh not to be. Your suggestions are appreciated, however, I'm very, very broke, with letters from debt collectors coming, and facing the prospect of soldiering on alone if my house mate leaves. I can't up and find anywhere else because my lease is until February, and finding this house mate took four months. And the worst bit is, I actually like her. We get on, she clean and tidy, and mostly respectful.
I have been thinking about you and what's coming up for you. Gosh, are you going to be ok? You feel it looming don't you, like mine? Sometimes you wish you could make it all away. But you know you just have to face it, and deal with the fallout. ❤️💙💚💛💜✌️

Hi @Sans911
Having debt like that is super-demanding and when it comes to credit cards it can be unfair - I know - I have been there
Actually - it's more scare tactics - if you can pay your utilities etc - that's the most important - because they can cut off your services but with some other debts the worst they can do is give you are hard time because if you are on a limited income they can't garnish that - and they can threaten to take your irredeemable assets and make your life a nightmare - but they can't take your necessities
But I do know what it's like to have the debt-collectors ringing you and writing letters - I stuck it out for something like 3 years on a credit card debt that was interest on top of interest and it was really hard
But on on tight - I am sure there are things you could add - totally sure - but I am also totally on your side - but if it helps - rant on - please - because it is just not fair the way these people latch onto us and are threatening - really hard
I read about your housemate at some stage and that has to be difficult - to loose her company in that you mostly like her - but you have a lease - and yes - I understand that can be hard to and you need to pay your rent first - so I really get it
I had better stop ranting myself here - I got carried away
But I am so sorry you are going through all of this

Re: My mental health respite
@Owlunar Thanks for listening. I've been debt problems before, so yes, I know these are scare tactics, and I've either been able to defer my debts or enter payment plans. I'm just so defeated because I actually got on top if all my debts when my house mate came, and despite irregular or no work, I was managing pretty well on not much money. Put having to pay full rent plus utilities that have doubled because of 2 people being in the house, has messed everything up again. It feels like my life has always been chasing my tail. Never quite getting ahead enough.
And at the end of this month, my car insurance and roadside cover is due, my car will due a HUGE service including spark plugs, possibly battery and brakes, and possibly tyres and definitely wheel alignment. I have to have my car for work, so I need to maintain it.
It's just rubbish being mentally unwell, not being able to work AND have this other issue hanging over my head.

Re: My mental health respite
Hi @Sans911
Sheesh - I do get it
Are you on sickness benefits or something similar atm - because there are things you can get for free or more cheaply if you are eliglble
A pensioner can get rent relief - that might apply to low income earner also - I don't know - and running a car is a super-expense and not driving is a painful thing for me so you need that car - whatever the expense
I have a half-price taxi card - but that's just for going somewhere I have to - still it could be cheaper than having a car - but not driving - keepyourcarkeepyourcar
Getting a house-mate must be hard - are you going to be compatible with that person - you can hardly tell when you meet them once or twice - I would not like to share my home but then as a part-pensioner I don't have to
Nevertheless I remember the stress when I was totally dependent on the pension - before the Rudd Goverment increased pensions and gave us supplements - I couldn't manage financially and needed help and thank God for the generostiy of my daughter
Scare tactics - the debt-collectors feel they have the right to be so intimidating it is a nightmare
All the best with that Sans - I hope you can find a compatible house-mate or more - you still have a long time on that lease and you also sound as if you have worked your way out before - really tough though
