I feel...

I feel...

I feel desperately lonely yet, I feel like I don't belong anywhere. I don't belong in the 'Normal' world because I am tarred with the brush of mental ill health, yet because I've sort of stabilised now, I don't belong with my former peers either. I feel beige, uncoloured and boring with no emotion really even though if I had to say anything it is gutted. I feel trapped in a world I don't want and didn't ask for, yet whenever I try and break the shackles of failure, I am thrust back into the dark and reminded yet again of my failures (my Father is a constant person to remind me). I feel alone, even in a crowded room. I feel unheard, even if I am screaming loudly.

I guess I am just searching for something and not sure what.

Does anyone else feel beige?

Re: I feel...

sorry @Queenie i mustve missed this post,

how are you going today? and did you hear back from your support worker about NDIS?

Re: I feel...

I don't see my support worker now for another 6 weeks @outlander. She has finished her part of the NDIS application. I only saw her for about 20 minutes instead of the full hour. My stuff has been scaled back for some reason. I am on my own in 6 weeks' time until I find out if my NDIS application is successful or not. If it is rejected, I can appeal. If the appeal is rejected, then I am without support forever. No respite access, no support worker, nothing. I have to prepare myself for that I guess.

My anxiety is still sky high. I shake and I've been having nightmares every single time I sleep. I'm worn out and people are commenting that I am quieter than normal, but what can you do? You can't stop nightmares can you?

How are you going today @outlander?

Re: I feel...

that doesnt seem very fair @Queenie i hope you can appeal. they cant just leave you without any supports. if you cant get NDIS can you go through someone else?

medications sometimes can help nightmares, i was on one and it helped but it made me pretty sick, might be something to look into with your gp?

Re: I feel...

I honestly don't know what happens if I am rejected under the NDIS @outlander. I think it basically means I am ineligible for services, so I am on my own. It is rather scary when I think about it.

I didn't know you can get medications for nightmares. Maybe it is something to chat to the GP about when I see her next Friday.

Re: I feel...

i think youd still be able to see your pscyhaitrist under a medicare refferral form @Queenie not quite NDIS, i only pay the gap fee to see mine and have unlimted sessions for the yr i have the form. the pscyhologist is the one thats harder to get into.

have you heard of grow? that could be an option for you too..

the one i was on to help with nightmares was an antidepressant. it gae me horrible nausea and weight loss (to the point of being under weight) but it has a really high success rate with heaps of people. it was helping my nightmares but couldnt handle the side effects on such a high dose. something to think about and discuss with your gp anyway, some sleepers might help too...

Re: I feel...

I only see my psychiatrist 4 times a year for review. He does bulk bill me so that's something I guess.

I haven't see a psychologist in a long long time (I finished up last year). She was okay but I'm not sure she can offer anything other than going over distraction techniques which I already know.

I went to Grow a few times, but I found it wasn't for me due to the religious stuff involved in it. I'm sort of against organised religion.

I might discuss the medication with my GP. She'll probably say no, but hey I won't know unless I ask.

Re: I feel...

thats fair enough @Queenie at least youll still have your psychaitrist and gp but would be nice to get you in touch with other services. i know public hospitals are open to everyone. private health insurance might work in your favour but that can get heaps expensive too depending on what your after.

i suppose a psychologist can only offer so much too and if its not helpful to you then not worth going

maybe you could do a search on google and see if any mh services or groups come up that you could join in with?

Re: I feel...

There's quite a few services in my area which are peer facilitated, which would be awesome. The unfortunate thing is they are funded via the horrible NDIS. I know this because I received a letter from a key mh organisation in my area which outlined all the known services and groups and which you will have to apply through the NDIA to access. It kinda sucks @outlander.

Maybe I need to graduate from services anyway? I mean this could be a growing up experience for me.

Re: I feel...

That really sucks even if it is peer i dont see why everything has to be through ndis
I wonder if your mrs can help being your carer she might be able to put a word in for you?

Thats a good way of looking at it- graduating from services however mh doesnt just magically dissapear so shouldnt be left with nothing..... @Queenie
