Re: RE: Darkness surrounds me

More than okay with me @Former-Member, and I understand an awful lot ..... most of that sounds like a description of my MIL .... and yes, it was she who I had hate issues with. It took a long time to curb her behaviour, and now that my hubby has gone mi awol, she is right back in that position of being where she shouldn't be, but with him so I'll and unaware, I have got a snowflake's chance in hell of resolving this in my own.... so to a large extent I have taken my hands off the wheel and stepped right back. Most of our everyday life is running in auto-pilot and I am emotionally estranged from the pair of them, who have become totally emotionally enmeshed with each other.

When you are able to, you can work with your husband and the psych to put boundaries on your mum's behaviour ...., and that could need to happen sooner rather than later.

It could be that you need to raise your hand in front of her and say, "Stop. I'm sorry, I don't accept you speaking to me this way, and if you keep going, I am afraid you will have to go home. I can't have you here in my home behaving this way."

Now, that is a big thing to try to attempt if you don't have the strength h and courage for it at the moment .... so just keep telling yourself that she is on borrowed time for now.

I hope this helps.

@Sans911

I know I should be grateful to have a mother, I know alot of people don't, but I can't handle her anymore. I speak to hubby about it but he doesn't know what to do with her either, and he doesn't cop it, only me.

Like the other day she had the nerve to say to me that I don't miss my Dad because I never cried at the funeral. Like what the hell. First, has she been thinking that for the last 2.5 years. Secondly, I am sorry that I don;t show my emotions like she does. Just becasue I didn't cry there, doesn;t mean I didn;t cry that night alone. Maybe b/c I was trying to be strong for her and my kids that day. She forgets I was the one that sat next to the hospital bed with her for the last 48hrs of his life, forgets that I was the one that followed the multiple of ambulances to the hospital whilst driving her up there, forgets I arranged the whole funeral, picked up his ashes b/c she couldn't. Crap I could go on all day. BUT i am the f**ken selfish one.

Now I am crying and lost all control, F""k I hate her so much. And you want to know what is F**ked up about this whole thing, I am now the one that feels terrible and a selfish person becasue I feel like this

Re: RE: Darkness surrounds me

I'm on a roll now.

So this is one story of how childish she is

She is a spiteful B**ch - the other days she went out and she came home. I asked her where she went (she ended up just going to see a friend). So turns around and says to me well you won't tell me what is happening with you, so I don't have to tell you anything. Like really, b/c those two things are alike, NOT. I said that is completly different. Then turns to me and says well you are being selfish for not telling me what happened so I don;t have to tell you.

OK, I need to stop there, I've totally lost control now

She is being petulant and childish @Former-Member ..... it's okay to call it like that to yourself, then try to switch it off for a while ..... you can see she is acting like a bratty child ..... disengage Hon ..... be coolly polite to her when occasion calls, but otherwise you don't actually owe her any of your attention at all ..... like a bratty clerk in the bank or thebpist office.

Being coolly polite helps tobto retain a sense of personal control, but she can't fault your manners either.

oh @Former-Member that sounds really awful.. I like @Faith-and-Hope 's suggestions of how to be around her. My mother was very ... difficult?! I dont have anything to do with her or know where she is these days but its hard not having any family as well. When i told her that I was going to uni she said that I had only done that to upset her because she didnt like anyone in my profession... lol no congratulations or encouragement.. everything was about her.. i raised my siblings.
here listening and glad that you can share/vent here. take care

Re: RE: Darkness surrounds me

Thanks @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Sans911

I think it just got too much this afternoon when she started at me. And now since I am not working and home during the day (she doesn't work either) I think it is making everything worse.

She makes me still feel like a child instead of a 39 year old.

And the F**ked up thing about all of this is I LET HER and I am so angry at myself becasue I let her

I am the one that feels selfish for having these thoughts of hatred towards her.

So not only does she make me feel like crap and blames me for all her problems, I;m the one that falls in a heap. And tomorow she will come and apologise and say I didn't mean it, etc, etc, etc.

So if she didn't mean it, than why does she keep doing it.

And becasue of her setting me off, my thoughts are going all over the place my head is filled with SH and SI. Just what I didn't need.

Re: RE: Darkness surrounds me

not what you need at all @Former-Member 😞 maybe take tomorrow as a day for you and be busy - have some plans in place so that if she does call or text to come over/phone you can genuinely say im busy today doing.. at... can we talk later? i know its only a stop gap measure but maybe just a little break/distance would help? hugs

@Former-Member unfortunately we can choose our parents. And sometimes we wound each more because one often remind the other of past slights. The advice from @Faith-and-Hope & @Former-Member seems sound and sensible
