The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Stellar effort @Faith-and-Hope - is that a personal best?

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

No @soul .... I have logged 16-odd km a couple of times this year, and that is 3 hours walking for me ..... but on holidays before I have walked up to about 7 hours in a day ..... probably not at 5km/hr though .... that probably worked out to about a 30km day.

I entered a 2-day walkathon when I was 12 years old with my dad. That was 88km.

I am very impressed @Faith-and-Hope. Did you have somewhere nice to walk when you did those 7 hours?

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

I have been very fortunate to travel in Europe @soul .... so it was around the streets of an old town that I love ..... but not unusual for me to walk 4-5 hours around any place that we have travelled to ... often in 2-3 hour stints.

I love walking, and it's the best way to explore historical places.

And then there is walking along beaches ......

And around hillsides ....

And in the snow ....

😊

In spite of the rain, I managed to clock up 14 505 steps today. Got wet walking to yoga. Didn’t bother with my umbrella as it was falling to pieces. Dog got two walks in as well.

How did everyone else go?

Listened to a lot of Tom Petty today whilst I was walking. Music I grew up with. Sad to hear that he passed away - 66 years of age.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

They erroneously reported his passing when he was actually still alive this morning but he died a bit later on. Such talent.
