The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Hey @Former-Member - I’d like to welcome you to this Walking thread. I hear you lack motivation to exercise. Maybe you can find some here.

We are walkers - some of us walk a lot and others not so much. Still others intend to eventually 😆🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻🚶🏼‍♀️🚶🐶

The rain has stopped for now and the weather is lovely and cool for walking. I did 15 122 steps today - 11.5 km. Hope you all managed to put one foot in front of the other quite a few times.

Wow, I just looked at my step counter & it's at 12,734! I did a walk around a river course with some peer support workers earlier today, plus another shorter walk this afternoon for coffee. @soul I think I should get bonus points this week for effort,

After not getting out of the flat for some days, I walked about 1.25km today while wandering around the local area.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Thanks, @Faith-and-Hope. I enjoyed getting out of the flat. The main walking was to my friend's place from the shopping village and I was running late so it was a faster than usual walk. I choose to walk the back streets instead of the main highway because it's quieter in the back streets and a more enjoyable walk all round. Legs are never great so it hurt a bit. But I get a sense of satisfaction from exercising my body. Did you enjoy your walking?

I like the quieter areas to walk also @Mazarita. That’s why I prefer the early morning especially on the weekends when there’s less hustle and bustle. It’s good to get out instead of being surrounded by four walls.

Keep it up!
