The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

That's still a great effort @Former-Member.

Walking while working adds up @Shaz51

@Determined- you are improving - that's the main thing. Hope you get to that 5000 step mark tomorrow.

@Faith-and-Hope - nearly 5kms. Probably achieved that by now.

Never mind @Maggie about the step counter. Try again tomorrrow.

@Sans911 - hills earn you extra points. Much harder than walking on the flat.

@Mazarita - you'll get a lot of steps in walking to and from appointments.

The usual walking trips for me but probably not as much walking around the home - 14 468 steps.

Guess what ? I woke up to my ligament playing up .... grrr .... so I have made a commitment to accruing steps incrementally while I am here ..... visiting a coffee shop a stone's throw from where we are living instead of my usual one 2.5km away ......

3.7km so far ..... cos I am cycling on an excises bike while I read a book ..... need something to combat my detest of gym equipment ..... but feeling good about this so far .....

😏

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Well I am up to a whopping 483 steps for today, have been stuck in front of my computer since early this morning and have to go to mums shortly to sort out some problems for the house sitter 😞 5000 steps for today is looking unlikely unless I dust off the treadmill that is currently being used as a storage rack. (will be dark before I get home at this rate) Where transfer all the crud that is piled on top of it, that is the question.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

All @Faith-and-Hope talk of cycling on the hot chock thread has inspired me to set up my bike on the indoor trainer, that may be easirer 🙂

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Well I managed 3170 steps (32 mins) of activity by the time I got home.
Went over to mums to sort out some stuff for the house sitter and found out the hard way there was a short in the electric fence. (Gate zapped me on the way in) so had to do a walk around the perimeter to find the fault. Too hot and bothered now to worry about the bike or treadmill. 7pm and its still over 35deg. Melting.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

So let's see who's been walking today.

@Shaz51 Is going to get a Fitbit. I use an app on my phone. My daughter has a little Fitbit thing she clips onto her clothes each day. There are lots of generic ones now that cost heaps less.

@Faith-and-Hope walked 🚶‍♀️ cycled 🚴 I thought about getting an exercise bike for those days when it's raining. Some of them have a stand for an iPad as well.

@Determined was glued to the screen. You should try to get up and walk around a bit every hour or so. Your exercise bike doubles as a storage facility huh? My ironing table is a bit like that.

@Former-Member did heaps of steps today. Excellent - you'll be wearing out shoes as fast as I do.

Step total for today is 14 455.

Keep walking 🚶🏻 🚶🏻🏃🏼🏃🏻‍♀️
