The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Not much walking here for days. But today I went out on the bus to a nearby shopping village, where I had an appointment. My feet have been so sore since I got home! Yet I would have walked only about 1.5km. Better than no kilometres, or even steps. I got close to that over recent days. Though I am reminded of @Faith-and-Hope suggesting that steps around the home may add up to more than we think. I hope so.

Congratulations on walking everyone.

@Former-Member Hey that was my hang out when I was a kid. Set the scene for my walking bug.

I was walking around a little town called Bundanoon and spent a day in the Mt Morton forest this weekend. Not sure how far, but my legs ached and the skin on my feet was starting to blister ... so probably enough.

Waking up and down and around the house, I might make 5km by bedtime tho @Mazarita

It's so nice when you have somewhere pretty to walk @Former-Member. The gardens must be looking very pretty now that it's spring. It looked to be a gorgeous day judging by your photo. Brilliant effort - would have been close to 13km.

You'd be surprised how many steps you clock up @Mazarita just walking around doing errands and at home.

Sounds like you must have been walking a lot too @Appleblossom.

@Faith-and-Hope - five kms is a good effort. Rest up before your trip tomorrow.

A huge improvement from yesterday @Maggie - great stuff.

@Determined - you had better ease back on all that walking 😆 - you'll wear yourself out.

For me, it was just walking around the neighbourhood again - 15 324 steps.
