The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Thanks @Maggie @soul .....

We managed a little of our "old" dynamic before the youngest two wandered off for a short time, then asked to go home early. We had two cars, so WH obliged, which suited him anyway .... I stayed on with the others till the end of the event, which was nice. There is still an overtone of sadness because things are not "right" .... but from a glass-half-full perspective, we at least achieved that much .... 😏👍

Something is better than nothing I guess @Faith-and-Hope. I had a rant to my daughter over the weekend when she was messing with me about her plans. I had asked her if she and the bf would be able to make a "family" (my son and myself) dinner. Didn't think that once a fortnight was too much to ask 😞

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

She / they might be begrudging about it at first @soul .... but it is very good for all of you to re-establish or create new family rituals, and for a reasonably close family, one person a fortnight that has flexibility to be pushed back to the three week mark on occasion to accomodate other commitments, doesn't sound at all unreasonable to me.

You go girl .... ❣️ .... be quietly persistent, and try to hold to that with your son even if your daughter and bf boycott sometimes .... you are grounding the ritual anyway, and your son may start bringing a partner at some stage, reinforcing the practice.

LoL @soul

Walking a non event for me atm and a matter of necessity only, walking to the car is an effort .
Need to make more of an effort though. may go for a walk later this afternoon before everyone gets home.

Today I did 17,469 steps. Most of it was spent walking through the royal botanic gardens which was nice.
