The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

I would love to have bush near me to walk in. I live in suburbia, heaps of main roads. Can't get away from people @Former-Member.

When I moved away for six months used to walk to botanical gardens from my rental but I missed the bush .I have walked in snow, seen brumbies who run away and remind me of myself avoiding contact because they fear harm. The only thing that worries me sometimes @soul is how I get agitated when I see or hear a car and I worry they will pull up and it will be someone who will trigger me.If I'm in depression,I even scare myself sometimes,I have so much anger like that dead old homeless guy on the train in the Ghost movie.

I felt a lot of anger too @Former-Member. Such a destructive way to live. I had to let it go. Unfortunately it was replaced by sadness. I'm trying very hard now to appreciate even the smallest of things that can make me happy in any way.

I'm like that in a way @soul, if I'm" in a storm" it's hard

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Hi @soul (and anyone else around) .....

The move is sounding a bit all over the place, so I'm not really listening to what is being said about it. I also don't want to move, but in the interests of what is on the cards at the moment, we need to move on that temporary basis to support him and his recovery.

Different time frames have been mentioned. Everything is already there in the place we will be staying in, so we only need to pack a case to go .... so I am just going to stick my head in the sand for the moment and take each step as it comes up .....

Couples counselling is the next card coming up for us .... but I cant talk about WH in front of him because he has no idea that he is unwell, and talking about him like that will throw us out of the frying pan and into the fire .... so I don't even know how that is supposed to work yet, and whether the outcomes from that will affect us going over east ....

Everything is as clear as mud.

Step count today was 18 349. Did two laps of the park with the dog first thing this morning. A fair few steps whilst I was out picking up some stuff at the shops. Trips to yoga and back. It was nice to do my final walk of the day with my son who came around for dinner.
