The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

I've clocked up 2800 and it's still morning, just, but I'm impressed. Happy walking everyone.

Hi all, it's a very wild & woolly day with the weather. I might try to go for a walk later after my appointment. If I go now I think I'll get blown away back home

Laughter yoga sounds like fun @Mazarita. Would love to hear what that's about.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

@soul, laughter yoga is something I go to once a month at the local community mental health centre. It's all about laughter and fun, with some very easy going stretches and physical activity thrown in. So... games, nonsense, like a child's party in some ways, except tailored for adults who want to act like kids. The idea is of that laughter, play, dancing, movement, singing, is all fun and helpful for mental and physical health. The more we can integrate moments of these things into our daily life, the better off we will be. It is fun and I feel quite tired after only an hour of it, it's fairly high energy by my standards. At the same time it's easy to do.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

I'm on 4,313 (3.2km) @Former-Member, but it's only mid-afternoon here at the moment, so that will increase a bit by the end of the day.

Yesterday was a 2 x walk day, so today is a quieter one .... but my ligament is still behaving, so that's good .....

Did 14 500 steps - 11km - that's about the norm. That yoga sounds really enjoyable @Mazarita. That saying comes to mind - "Laughter is the Best Medicine"

Great efforts @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @Maggie. Hope you got a walk in too @Sans911
