The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

@Faith-and-Hope, cheers! Yes, I did enjoy most of it. Even though I had little sleep (about 4 hours in two blocks), the day just picked up a good momentum as it went along. I'm glad it's looking a little quieter tomorrow cause I'm a bit sore and headachey tonight. But it showed me I can do more than I think I can, at least some days.

Yeah ..... I find I have to space the more full-on days with slower self-care days in between @Mazarita ...,, protect my energy levels.

Hope you sleep well tonight.

Thanks @Mazarita ..... 💕

I will be around for a little while yet, but quite likely to face-plant my iPad tonight. Nicely tired from the two big walking days this week, and a low-sleep night last night.

Well done all of you who walked and walked today. @Faith-and-Hope@Mazarita@Sans911@Former-Member Every step counts. I did my usual quota. My goal is 10 000 steps and I exceed that just about every day except when it's raining which it hasn't done for a while.

Today's step count - 14 336 - that's 11.2km.

Good to see you here @Former-Member

@Mazarita Hi, I bought a pedometer for $20 from the chemist. Thought you might be interested. Clips onto your waist. Have a good day.

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Hi @Maggie, hope you are well this morning. Thanks for the suggestion. I am also looking at 'no-brand' wrist monitors on ebay, around the same price or less. Meanwhile, I'll just keep estimating my kms. The important part is actually doing the walking. Less concerned about whether it is accurately measured, though having the steps counter might inspire me to do more. Not today though. I'm worn out from yesterday's greater than usual effort!

Hope everyone's day goes smoothly and some walking distance is travelled.

Trip to the coffee shop means your walking for the day has begun, @Faith-and-Hope. I'm taking off to laughter yoga very soon, nice to bump into you again this morning. Hope it's a good one for you today.
