The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Following on from the outstanding success of "The Great Yoga Adventure Thread", here begins one that may appeal to a larger sector of the Sane Forum population. Although I have started it in the Lived Experience side, anyone is welcome to join us as we put one foot in front of the other and walk to improve our mental and physical wellbeing.

I hope you will accompany me. Here we can talk about how, when, where and why we walk. It's a place to discuss our progress and share what we see along the way.

Walking is my thing. I love it. I do it in several ways. During the weekdays, I get up early and take a brisk walk usually stopping in along the way at the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Around mid morning, I take my dog for a stroll. Then late afternoon, I walk to and from a yoga session. Lastly, at night, it's another walk for the pooch.

On weekends, I like to go a bit further afield and discover new stuff. I often take photos as well during these walks.

I use an App on my phone called Pacer which monitors the distance and steps that I walk. I do a minimum of 10 000 steps each day. Some of you may be more high tech and have a Fitbit or equivalent.

@TAB Every little bit helps.

@Faith-and-Hope Thank you. I walk every day and average around 10k but today was extra due to walking around isles while grocery shopping.

@Former-Member ..... that's great .... 😊

I am managing a second walk today. It will have my tally at about 8.5 - 9km by the bs of the day, but some of that is incidental exercise too. Am going to try the s cons walk every other day for now and see whether my ligament holds up okay.

@soul@Faith-and-Hope@Former-Member@Former-MemberWell soul, you must have hit my guilt metre trip this morning, because I still wanted to not go out for a walk, but i did. And I walked around a small lake twice. So I think I did around 3.5km, plus some incidental walking in my house this morning getting ready for inspection. The lake is really pretty and serene, with lots of bird life, but not many people. And I listened to some pleasant music. My step count is at 8380. Well done to everyone else

Re: The Walking for Wellbeing Thread

Hi @Faith-and-Hope, @soul, @Sans911 and everyone, congrats all round

Today was the biggest day out I've had for a long long time. I was awake around 4.30am. Lots of walking, going from appointment to appointment, wandering around my local shopping village and up the highway to my friend's place. Also lots of walking and physical activity at my friend's place, where I was helping her clean for her rental flat inspection tomorrow. We were going from mid afternoon until about an hour ago (with chunky breaks for drinks and chat and dinner as well). I had the Pacer app set on my mobile for the parts of the day I was outside. But it just didn't work properly. It recorded less than 500 steps. I think I know why: I have a phone/tablet, 7 inches. I don't think the app was designed to work with a device that large. I think I need a wrist monitor if I'm going to do this more accurate counting thing. I'll ponder that a bit more before buying. Meanwhile, I estimate I walked at least 5kms today. That's much more than usual for me.

Here's hoping we all sleep well tonight.
