Is mental illness real?

Is mental illness real?

I'm starting to think not.

I think I'm just a useless failure of a human being and I have troub;e coping with this fact. It's not a real thing,I see this in the way most psychiatrists treat you like less than human. I'm not human. It's all just a joke.

And even with all this 'treatment' I'll always be me, a complete failure of a human being. It can't change who I am. So what's the point?

The problem is that if I cancel my psychiatrist appointment and don't get my blood tests done regularly they'll know. I don't know what to do. I could go to the appointments and lie, but how do I fake the blood tests? Can I just opt out? Tell them I'm done? Do they care? What's the point of all this?

I think it is fear that sometimes let us think we could be fated to be bad or evil. I have never found any of your posts bad. I like the sciencey intelligent side of you too We all do lots of different things and some might be better than others. One of my worst disclosures was an assignment in HSC where we had to long autobiographical piece. I felt I had given my soul up on a platter and the simple mark on my paper was not enough recognition. I could not stay in the class that night and stayed away the next week, but in the end I never discussed the content but realised my teacher respected me.

Sometimes when we are analytical we are not as good at managing emotional things maybe that is the case with you too, but dont over blow it to thinking you are evil or scum.

That said I regularly go into a negative on self spout. I seem to have to get it out and then get on being the averagely alright person. I used to think I was monster all sorts of things. At least I have come a long since those days.

I think all the responses on this thread have been great, in the ideas department and in the affirmation of you as a person. @Former-Member Please dont compare yourself to others at uni, Maybe the lecturers are overwhelmed and out of their depth, but dont take lack of response as necessarily a bad reflection of you. . No-one else can take the place of you. Self worth is a peculiar thing. Try and find a little space in your heart to nurture you in all your knowledge of yourself. Give yourself the love you need.

Even if you have made a few mistakes, everybody has, try and do better next time.

I had a lot of problem with the evil word as my mother was delusional and religious and thought I was evil. It was not true but it was hard to get over. You arent either.

Gentleigh Bentleigh. Hold your soul with kindness.

I can hear you @Former-Member There's so much pain on these forums but at least it's open and real. You are part of that and I could never see you as scum. Thinking of you.

@Former-Member 💗

That was very brave. Are you scared of what's in the email or what the response/not response might be? (If you want to share)

Re: Is mental illness real?

Everything.
I've just been to throw up I'm feeling so bad right now.
I'm scared that he now knows the truth. What he might think, what he might do. I'm scared that another person now knows the truth. What happens if he agrees that it's true?
Sorry...... I'm just stressing right now.

Re: Is mental illness real?

It sounds really hard right now @Former-Member. I can understand why you'd be feeling scared, epsecially after your recent experience opening up. Although our situations are our own and are not going to be the same, I can very much relate to that feeling of everything being scary after someone has 'found out', or even feeling like people might have 'found out'. It's terrifying.

You defintely don't have to be sorry 5-HT. We're here listening and caring if it helps.

God.... what if telling him was a mistake.
I could always not go back to see him, that's an option.
I just wish he would respond and say he has read it. That's all.

Did he respond to the last email @Former-Member?

I hope he replies for you, and that you don't have to wait too long to hear. The waiting to hear thing can be really hard.

Hang in there.

We share and reveal parts of ourselves for company, for a response, to reduce aloneness.... regardless of the lecturer's response, if you need to go into damage control, be practical about your study and credit for your work done.
