Is mental illness real?

Is mental illness real?

I'm starting to think not.

I think I'm just a useless failure of a human being and I have troub;e coping with this fact. It's not a real thing,I see this in the way most psychiatrists treat you like less than human. I'm not human. It's all just a joke.

And even with all this 'treatment' I'll always be me, a complete failure of a human being. It can't change who I am. So what's the point?

The problem is that if I cancel my psychiatrist appointment and don't get my blood tests done regularly they'll know. I don't know what to do. I could go to the appointments and lie, but how do I fake the blood tests? Can I just opt out? Tell them I'm done? Do they care? What's the point of all this?

But what happens if I am evil?

@Former-Member

I don't know what you wrote, but I do know how hard it is to open up and how I interpreted every little sign to be dismissive, angry, disgusted... and I know how angry I get when I do not get a reply. But I have learnt that they often cannot reply, not because they don't care or don't want to know, but it's so difficult to give me the feeling that I am still worthy and ok the way I am - as I twist their words in my own interpretation and it can get really bad when it's just in writing and they cannot see my reaction. Eventually we agreed that I will spew up whatever is in my mind and wait for the session as it causes A LOT of stress, misunderstandings and distrust, which was really hard.

And yes, you should be alive x

Re: Is mental illness real?

You are a gorgeous person @Former-Member and most certainly should be alive. I can understand how much that psych appointment and not responding would be devastating knowing a bit of your history. I'm so proud you opened up. You haven't done anything wrong. I'm not sure what is going on with the psych but I can totally understand how you'd be feeling. I don't know what is going on with him not responding and there may be something stopping him from or he is not checking his emails. The fact that after that appointment he told you to email him makes me think that it might be ok. Sometimes our feelings take over regardless of the facts and it's impossible to let go of them even when we know the truth. This is me today.

I also know from past experience @Former-Member when study becomes overwhelming lots of your very dark thoughts about being evil creep in. You are not and have never been evil. I know I'm not supposed to give advice but please don't go off your meds until you see your psychiatrist or GP. You asked if mi was real. I believe it is. I can see when it is affecting you in a very real way. I remember before your hospital visit late last year. This seems a little similar. None of it is your fault. You never chose your illness just like no one chooses leukaemia or diabetes etc.

make sure you give that very kind, caring, smart sciency @Former-Member a chance to get past this rough patch again. She is so worth it.

sending loads of hugs to you 💜🤗💐

(I always get dragged out of the woodwork for you, you are very special to me 💜)

Re: Is mental illness real?

@Former-Member I don't know what it is that's making you feel like you're evil. I do think that even people who have made some really big mistakes or poor choices, still deserve to be treated with respect and understanding. Particularly when those people are seeking help like you were when you spoke about it.

PS I so desperately wanted to climb into your very safe nest today @CheerBear. It's been my anniversary day. You and @Phoenix_Rising have helped me in the back of my head get through and ride the wave without using my very maladaptive coping strategies. Please don't respond to this here because I don't want this to be about me but @Former-Member but I wanted you to know. I possibly won't cope too with anything about me just now.

Hugs and flowers to you both ( well hugs for one and flowers for the other)

Re: Is mental illness real?

@Former-Member - I'm heading off to bed now but wanted to stop past before I go. I hope you can find something that helps you feel less scared tonight, and something that gives you some comfort until you feel less horrible.

Thinking of you
