Re: not coping

thats true @Lee82
im going to ask my gp if he could maybe refer me to a dietician so i can get the rebate just to help me sort through it all i think.
the main one is the lacotse intolerance, thats the most important one to start with, when i work out what i can and cant have then i can start working through the low sugars. the reduction in carbs is fairly easy cause carbs are obvious ones.

ill try the oatmilk next i think f the almost milk doesnt go to well. most coffee shops when you ask for lactose free they use almond or soy milk so if i can adjust to that then i can still get a tea when im out and about with the kids while they get a milkshake or something else

Re: not coping

thank you @NatureLover no, no shortages atm. people have been better this time around with panic buying so theres enough to go around. there are still some restrictions like with pasta and rice and that sort of thing but its more manageable this time for the moment anyway.

i hope you can get some sleep and tomorrow is ok for you

Re: not coping

Yea I use to get headaches too @Snowie. water does seem to help a little.
my day has been ok. Nothing much happening. Just did some food shopping and some cleaning around the house.

Re: not coping

im already overwhelmed @Snowie with the shopping so i started with just getting a new milk. tomorrow when i go shopping ill be really mindful of what i buy and will stick with some things i know is ok like water based veg (cucumber lettuce etc) and proteins that arent crumbed, overly saucy etc so just plain old steaks and chicken breasts, lamb will probably be ok for now.

the rest of the days been ok. pop had his carer here this morning so i got abit of time out, done the horses and then i went to the specialist. i was better going with a friend since it was alot to take in and she helped me quite abit by just talking. she has her own chronic conditions and is medically trained as well so she both knows what the meaning of things are and also knows how tough chronic things are to adjust to.

how was your ect?

Re: not coping

Just a tip from a barista. Soy milk seems to curdle a little if heated to the wrong temp and also sometimes when added to hot water. Lactose free milk actually tasted pretty good too. You can also buy lactose free cheese these days and other dairy products. I think seeing a dietitian is a great idea cause there are a lot of hidden carbs in certain foods like veggies etc. I believe broccoli is one of them.

Re: not coping

Eww thanks for the headsup @Lee82
i like the lactose free milk but its actually really high in sugar including the skim lactose free. the lactose free milk is almost double in sugars compared to most other milks so i was told to stay away from them. i can have it though if i was to go to a coffee shop and they only had that.

yeh there is lots of sugars and carbs hidden everywhere.
rockmelon, pineapple and also surprisingly corn are high in sugars as well. thats why its making it really hard to know what i can and cant have. when my weight goes back down ill be able to loosen the reins abit with the sugar and carbs but i have to be really strict for at least 6 months. by then itll prob be the new normal for me and wont really think much different.

Re: not coping

Your welcome @outlander happy to help in any way I can. Yea actually that's true about lactose free milk. You have to make sure you buy unsweetened. Even almond milk and I think oat you can buy unsweetened.
in 6 months time it will definitely be the new norm for you. And at least you are cutting out all the unhealthy things in food like sugar and carbs. How do you go with gluten?

Re: not coping

Glad you got a few things done today @Lee82

@outlander it seems like you are already doing your research hun which is good.

I am super glad you had a friend go with you sweetie, hopefully they made it easier for you to cope.

ect went ok, have tomorrow off and then another session on Friday.

Today hasn't been a great day mentally but will go get my meds soon and go to sleep.

Re: not coping

thanks @Lee82
theres unsweetened options for most i think. im not sure im enjoying the nutty flavour of the almond milk though. so i might try the oat milk or rice milk tomorrow. its made my tea taste very nutty but that might be because im not use to it.

i go ok with gluten. i honestly never had a problem with much till a few months ago. i would have issues on and off with dairy but i had to drink alot of milk for it to happen (like 3 or 4 cups of it ) before id feel abit off colour.
i mostly just had issues with acidic type stuff because of reflux but wouldnt cause stomach pain like this just some nausea and heartburn and the burning stomach senstation-that sort of thing. thats probably why we hadnt made any connection previously and cause i tried the week away from dairy and didnt do anything we didnt suspect it(little did we know it was this severe and would take a while to actual recover from this flare up)

Re: not coping

ive been doing my research just in bits and pieces and remembering what the specialist said as well. hes the one who mentioned some of the foods to avoid because most people wouldnt even think of it as being unhealthy (or unhealthy for me anyway) @Snowie
it did make it easier with a friend esp since the elevators were abit weird in that the buttons were scattered so we ended up in the car park and upstairs and started to make me nervous so it was good having someone there physically too.

im sorry the day hasnt bene great for you though, sounds like maybe an early night is on the cards hey. Im glad ect went ok though.

did you get to talk to H and the kids today?
