Re: not coping

Your pop being back home is certainly work for you @outlander

Glad they are keeping you on till the very end.

Are you going to your Mum's for christmas or are you having it at home?

Re: not coping

honestly i dont feel like celebrating at all. nothing is organised. pop will no doubt be going to a few places as he gets invited. i will probably just be at home or if pops going out i might even go to work if theres something avaliable. @Snowie theres so much family drama going on.

ive also just volunterred to help a local company for a few days to help them get ready for a christmas dinner for the homeless and help with delivering food and toy hampers for disadvantaged families. so ill be doing that between now and christmas as well

Re: not coping

Sometimes a quiet christmas is nice to have @outlander without the pressure of faking happiness. I hope you are able to celebrate in your own special way.

Thats so nice of you to volunteer hon. I'm sure they really appreciate you being there.

We always pick some toys out and put them under the christmas tree at kmart. Have been doing it with the kids since they were little. Sometimes it feels nice to give.

Re: not coping

when school goes back i make up a couple of back to school packs and give them to disadvantaged kids and for a few years ive been doing share the dignity drives as well @Snowie i really enjoy it. i havent volunteered with this company before but ill give it ago and maybe if all goes well i can keep helping with deliveries at christmas and with a bigger car that can fit a few hampers in it might help with some of the volunteers that can only do one or 2 at a time so im excited to be of some help

Re: not coping

Hey @outlander ,

That's a lovely gesture. I haven't caught up on your previous posts yet. But I know you mentioned your workplace will be closing?

Re: not coping

Thats so good to hear that it makes you excited @outlander Sometimes the best way of helping ourselves is to help other people. It does give you some satisfaction.

The school pack backs are a great idea, especially since it can be so expensive to buy books and stationary.

Re: not coping

well quite a few years ago when it was only mum myself and one sister when we were alot younger we unfortunatly required help from the community as buying school items, paying bills and food were a real struggle so its nice now that i have a job and im older to be able to give back even if its not much. id like to be able to do it again this year but i think the packs will depend on my work status now. but at least i can help with hampers at christmas.

hey @tyme
yes unfortunatly i have lost my job but still have some work across christmas helping with the closures, transitions of clients, some admin stuff but its scattered. i was given a lovely reccomendation though from the boss and a company has reached out but theres not avaliable spots till after christmas as most of the clients take time off as well so the company has to ensure their staff are well cared for before hiring someone new. i have an interview with them next week to see if i would be a good candidate for a few of the clients that is needing an extra worker involved.

A small thing to us @outlander can make a huge difference to someone else. Especially to see the smiles on others can be so satisfying to ourselves. I have no doubt that you will make a difference in others lives.

Re: not coping

i hope so @Snowie i was thnking about doing a counselling degree next year so i can do peer support work and be able to focus on people who suffer chronic pain and also carers as well because they are things i experience the most myself and milder mental health conditions, im not sure i could get quite right into psychology but helping people manage anxiety and panic attacks and that sort of thing i could do!
