Coming to terms with reality

Coming to terms with reality

Hi Readers, i am suffering from "mental health issues" and it is an ongoing, daily battle. I am pretty much constantly wrestling with the thoughts going on in my mind. And my psychical life seems too be suffering for it. (There is a huge difference between physical and mental ) something is definitely not right! So each day I'm waking up and going about my routine. And over the last few days, weeks and months. I have been noticing changes in my mentality toward myself, others and life. And some questions such as, what is my life about? And what should my objectives be? Have arisen... of course like we all are, I'm subject too making decisions... and there has been the same options in front of me time and time again for months on end. And it becomes rather draining and mundane. And i feel myself going around in circles like something simple just ain't connecting.

I enjoy writing, art, music. And peace of mind... walking, reading, meditation. Taking care of myself. Socialising. Etcetera. Getting ahead, getting in front. Planning, dreaming and so on. And do my best to look after myself. While accepting that it can only ever be so much.

But there just something not quite right. And I'm suffering for it on a daily basis. And I'm tired and fed up with going through the same stuff everyday. And in all honesty. Alot of my suffering comes from prospective and thought processes.

Does anyone wanna talk with me about some things that might help? In particular dealing with people no matter who they are. Can be very stressful and cause lots of procrastinating about pros and cons. In particularly people who i think about reaching out to for support. Because of dilemmas dramas and social dynamics. And picking up on things that "aint really happening" "gut feelings type of stuff " "intuition" that type of thing. And enjoying time with people is great! I just tend to be overly preoccupied with symptoms to be worried about socialising sometimes "Symptoms which involves others"

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Nah you haven't offended me @Former-Member I just think about what the real lives of all these people behind the profiles are like. Like, what their lives are like. How they're managing. Where they live. How they're feeling. How they're going about their days.
I know my situation and circumstances very well. And I know my own thoughts and feelings well. And I gauge my experiences against anyone else's. And try to feel empathy or compassion for them. Because I figure life is tough and hard going for everyone.
And as for the helping people in need. It's a way to provide a service for people. It's a way to feel good about ourselves and help another in the process.
I've also had a head injury 😣

Yea @TAB it's a broad subject...

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Reality...

What a loaded word that is...

My reality, your reality, everyone's reality; sometimes in agreement, often in conflict...

Reality... a way of seeing what is...

Reality... it is our projection of our selves onto the blank canvas that is the actual reality underneath...

Two people see a shooting star... the underlying reality is the same... one person sees the brief flash across the sky and asks why happiness is so very short lived; the other person sees eternity in the sky and makes a silent wish...

The same base reality, changed almost beyond recognition by our own interpretations, prejudices, beliefs, understanding, even our moods and our state of health...

I call the base reality the Really Real. Mindfulness and meditation are ways of stripping away the layers of reality that we superimpose on the Really Real...

When we look at the world, our reality is often more about ourselves than it is about the world...

By removing the projection of self that is superimposed on the Really Real, then we can begin to truly see that which is...

Or was that perceptions @Silenus ?

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Agree with most of those sentiments @Silenus. Nicely put.

"By removing the projection of self that is superimposed on the Really Real, then we can begin to truly see that which is..."

I've come to the conclusion that we are unable to properly remove the projection of our perceptions, because without those experiences, learnings, wisdoms, whatever we choose to call them, we have nothing upon which to base our understanding of even our own situation, let alone what might or might not be any underlying situation.

Anything we do, we do and see, and percieve and all that, from our perspective, it can't be anything else no matter how far we push our senses. That's just what I have come to understand though and others will have their ideas and opinions and understandings too, and that's okay.

@eudemonism Thank you for responding. I still don't understand what was behind the question, but I'll have to let it pass for my own self preservation.

@Former-Member re question. I was talking about the real life people behind the profile. Their real world. Their material world. Their social lives. It's all connected through this cyber world of profiles.
Sorry if I confused you.

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Yes indeed, @TAB ... it is very much about perception. That is a big part of it...

But I believe that it is even more about the self. So many layers of conditioning laid down in one's life by all the things that do or do not happen to the self...

It is like an archaeological dig, with all these layers... hahaha... time to crack out the pick and shovel, the trowel and the brushes and get to work... uncovering how the past events have accumulated in layer upon layer to finally deposit us on the ground upon which we walk, the foundations upon which we build our lives...

To me, it is more than just a shift in perception or an awareness of the effects of individual perceptions...

It becomes about disengaging from the self, about an effortless suspension of self...

It must be effortless, for if there is effort, the self becomes frustrated, and tries to solve the problem by applying more effort. Soon, the moment is lost, buried by layers of self, trying ever harder to not be self...

But with practice, even an unquiet chaotic mind like mine can let go of its "self" and simply purely just "be"...

Your self, like Elvis, has left the building. There is no attachment to anything, no judgement, no measuring and comparing...

There just "is"...

It's impossible to describe in words, because words are a product of thought, and thought is unbreakably bound to one's self...

This, to me, goes beyond Mindfulness... if you are there, experiencing something, and you think to yourself "This is beautiful", then you are not there. It is about moving beyond words to the silence underneath, the wordless state of being that has lost all sense of separateness and is a part of the whole...

As you most eloquently put it in your thoughtful post, @Former-Member (love the name, by the way... what a wonderful juxtaposition there is in a sunshower... you know, when I was trekking through the jungles of Vanuatu, the local guides taught me the Bislama language phrase for sunshower... it is "pis pis blong sun"... ahh I do have moments of laughter after all... what a happy memory...)

Erm... I kinda lost my thread... hahaha...

SunShower... I hope that my mediocre words have in some way shed some light on the experiences I have had with this state where even the watcher within closes their eyes...

It is, to me, a perfect eternal moment of union with the infinite Multiverse...

Hugs and happy vibes beaming to you all... 🙂

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Thank you for your kind and thoughful words @Silenus so elegantly put.

An archaeological dig - so true - and like an archaeological record, we are only able to surmise what might or might not have been behind every little bit of that record uncovered. It is so involved and so deeply ingrained in the situations that were happening at the time those layers were set in place, that it is nearly impossible to find the whole truth within those artifacts from the knowledge with which we are gazing upon them.

I chose the name because of that juxtaposition Silenus, thank you for noticing and commenting. I can be sad and happy at the same time, just as with a sun shower, it can rain and be sunshiny at the same time.

I did visit Vanuatu once in years gone by, a wonderful and expanding experience for me. I did not trek through the jungle, not brave enough for that. I have often thought, but for the humidity, I would return to live there, such exquisite peacefulness and acceptance, but it might well be different for visitors than it would be for residents.

I can dream of attaining that sense of belonging even though an outsider, of being nurtured even though not one of, of support and caring that I felt in my few days there. A happy memory for me also, thank you, I am trying to find happy memories, I know there must have been some.

Yes, Silenus, I believe I understand, at least as much as anyone can understand anothers' experience.

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Much love and respect to you, @Former-Member

My experience of the people of Vanuatu was as you suspect... they welcome even odd strangers like me with such universal love and acceptance that it totally throws your world view out the window, and I mean that in the best of ways...

Oh my... the people I met... I aspire to unlearn much of what my "civilization" has taught me, and return to a simpler, more essential and vibrant truth...

Re: Coming to terms with reality

I think I meant by mentioning perceptions was that reality depends on your perceptions or that someone was posing perceptions as reality? @Silenus . Apologies to Aldous Huxley and the Doors lol
