Coming to terms with reality

Coming to terms with reality

Hi Readers, i am suffering from "mental health issues" and it is an ongoing, daily battle. I am pretty much constantly wrestling with the thoughts going on in my mind. And my psychical life seems too be suffering for it. (There is a huge difference between physical and mental ) something is definitely not right! So each day I'm waking up and going about my routine. And over the last few days, weeks and months. I have been noticing changes in my mentality toward myself, others and life. And some questions such as, what is my life about? And what should my objectives be? Have arisen... of course like we all are, I'm subject too making decisions... and there has been the same options in front of me time and time again for months on end. And it becomes rather draining and mundane. And i feel myself going around in circles like something simple just ain't connecting.

I enjoy writing, art, music. And peace of mind... walking, reading, meditation. Taking care of myself. Socialising. Etcetera. Getting ahead, getting in front. Planning, dreaming and so on. And do my best to look after myself. While accepting that it can only ever be so much.

But there just something not quite right. And I'm suffering for it on a daily basis. And I'm tired and fed up with going through the same stuff everyday. And in all honesty. Alot of my suffering comes from prospective and thought processes.

Does anyone wanna talk with me about some things that might help? In particular dealing with people no matter who they are. Can be very stressful and cause lots of procrastinating about pros and cons. In particularly people who i think about reaching out to for support. Because of dilemmas dramas and social dynamics. And picking up on things that "aint really happening" "gut feelings type of stuff " "intuition" that type of thing. And enjoying time with people is great! I just tend to be overly preoccupied with symptoms to be worried about socialising sometimes "Symptoms which involves others"

Re: Coming to terms with reality

I feel like I'm slipping and degenerating and going into a state of regression... Focusing on the negatives, the problems, the challenges and adversaries... And the things that can't be changed... And I feel an overwhelming sense of desperation... Too make things right... In the eyes of society... And in the eyes of myself...

Re: Coming to terms with reality

@eudemonism has something occurred to make you slip back? What are you able to do today to try and stop focusing on the negatives? Maybe try and keep busy. A sewing or craft project. A task in the garden that needs doing.

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Hello @eudemonism. You know yourself very well from what I've read in the earlier posts in your thread and I admire that.

I hear you on the 'things that can't be changed'. Society is somewhat judgmental and has not walked in your shoes, so trying to make things 'right' in those eyes might not be the best route to take - however, if there were something of a legal nature that could be different. (Just thinking broadly here for all who might read this)

From your experiences in pulling yourself out of the feelings you're having now, is there anything that has helped in perhaps even the tiniest of ways to alleviate those feelings?

You've mentioned you craft, and I'm a big fan of using my hands, eyes and mind to focus on doing something that will provide me some sense of difference from what I was feeling before. I hope that makes sense.

I really do trust and hope that you are feeling a bit better today, and that those feelings keep improving for you.

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Hi @eudemonism I'm sorry you're doing it tough right now. I think @Former-Member is right about making things right in the eyes of society. There are a lot of judgmental and ignorant people in society, so I would say be selective in who you try to please.

You mentioned earlier about how hard it is to set boundaries. I'm the same, and when I do speak up I am overwhelmed with anxiety. Recently there have been a couple of instances where I've experienced this and at the time it was extremely hard. With time, however, I could reflect and felt better about it.

I think making thing right 'in the eyes of myself' is key. I struggle with how I perceive and feel about myself. At best, I see myself as a survivor, who has done ok against the odds. I can live with that, which is what I'm aiming for! There are a lot of times I just feel crap about myself and my situation and wonder what might have been. I know it's an overused and misconcrued concept, but for me mindfulnes has helped. It's taken years, and it doesn't fix anything, but it does help me to work with what is, and to do what I can right now. When MI is overwhelming me I can't be mindful, and I certainly can't meditate. So I try to do those things when I am able to, and some of it remains when I can't actively do it. It's a struggle; no way around it. I'm struggling along side you and wishing you some peace.

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Well said @frog you've described my daily struggle more succinctly than I could. In the 'eyes of myself' so well put.

Have to go do some stuffs now, look after yourselves won't you!

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Hi @Bunniekins I'm feeling better now. Thanks too some supportive friends and a good chat. Sometimes I feel down here. When I want to be up there. A tricky place to be.

How has your day panned out?

Re: Coming to terms with reality

Hi @utopia yea... Negative thinking cycles (perhaps natural and essential cycles) a few things repeatedly bother me. And they sometimes get the better of me. It creates a nasty thinking cycle. Luckily I've got supports in place and options to help get myself right again. Am also working through the the underlying issues as I go.

Thanks for coming to my aid. And being concerned for my wellbeing.

@eudemonism Hi eudemonism my day has been okay. I am rather excited as I am going to see my new pdoc on Wednesay and have a list of questions to ask her. Also the weather is getting cooler here and that is great because I hate the heat.

Eudomonism I was curious about the meaning of your name and googled it ... it said it was a form of ethics. I didn't quite understand what ethics it was can you explain it to me 🙂
