Yet another problem

Yet another problem

.....if its not repressed dreams or my parents is this stress. Am I too sensetive?

Two years ago, my childhood sweetheart and i broke up. It was very sad but i had to keep myself safe. He is diagnosed chronic ( meaning all the time...) paranoid schizophrenia and i live with my own issues.

Since then, he has quit the drugs and alcohol. He was living four five hours drive away and he moved nearer to me about 3 months ago and wrote me a card. we are both almost 50 years old. We both see our mothers a lot. Me...not really wanting to too much and him because he is incapable to make friends in the community without a bit of a push.

i see my Psychotherapist....im dealing with my own stuff. Its difficult that my life is centred around my medication effects and...brain damage. . I further realise via therapy how badly ive been treated ny my family....for just being a woman.

He is taking responsibility for himself......though i wasnt the reason why he quit he says he used to think...if he changed his life Round......i would be his prize...... but we are only friends....we just really like spending time together.

his Mum continues to hate me. When we broke up she sending me threatening emails and ì responded by writing that i deaRly wanted our relationship to work and i was in danger from his alcohol use and the hospitals were not listening to me and how dangerous he was. I said if she kept up the emails i wou.d need to consider putting a restraining order on her.

We stay over at each others place.....only as friends.....i dont think i can develop anymore, if she doesnt change .....im happy to walk away if she keeps on with her shenanighans....she calls him and asks if im staying the night and she will not see him when im here.

I feel like im falling apart again. In the past, she would call my Mum and start the complaining.....my Mum would join in. I dont think i could do that again.

it makes me ill tthat im dealing with this at my age. As well as this that i do need a .ot of support.

Can anyone comment ?

Re: Yet another problem

Sorry, I can never answer that question @Troubled_One especially not in an online forum.

It sounds like you dont feel as bad as the last hospitalisation as you can look back it and assess your mental state, so you are showing some insight and awareness, but I also get that having a panic attack on a train is not comfortable.

I left home at 16 when my mother's walls and ignorant and authoritarian style caved in on me. I never regretted that. She unfortunately never forgave me but I had her around for a meal with 2 weeks .. that is my story. You do get some clarity when you have independence, but we are also interconnected. BTW my brother also grew great dope plants within his vegies, though I was trying to get off it, it just made me more fond of him, I can see them in my mind's eye right now.

I am just saying it is normal to want space from parents and it is better to organise getting that space before things getting tetchy and you wreck the good relationships you have tried to build. Use what outside supports you have.

What can hospital really offer long term .. Can @kenny66 offer his suggestion? He seems to have a viable setup with both secure place to live and MH services to support him.

That sounds like a good plan @PeppiPatty. We can love em and lead them to the good watering holes but we cant make them drink.

Re: Yet another problem

Hi @Troubled_One, I would suggest seeing your doctor if things are feeling so bad, preferably someone who knows you and your situation as best as they can to help you make a plan for what ever it is that is going to get you back on track for recovery. Whenever I have big decisions to make i tend to fall apart a bit until i can put it into some sort of plan of action with small enough paarts that I can manage.

Hospital is definitely one option but there may be others your're not aware of. If you didnt want to talk to your doctor at the moment I think black dog and beyondblue websites have lines you can ring for referral options in your area? I know here in SA i can ring the mental health line (13 14 65) i think and speak to a mental health nurse 24/7 (i havent used them though)...

There are lots of options, hoping that you are doing ok,

LJ

Re: Yet another problem

Thats the sort of thing I mean.

Not to get caught up in dualistic or black and white thinking .. mum ... dad ... hospital ... in . ... out.

If it is not working with your current doctor can you look elsewhere .. someone who can help walk with you and get a substantial plan going for the long term instead of getting annoyed at dad and having mum help.. or even hoping brother will help ..they will always only ever be human and that hopefully is enough.. but you have your own life to lead and that is scary.

Re: Yet another problem

dear Lee,

Dont worry Lee, the right move will just happen. It makes sense that you feel suffocated at your Dad's place but it is like this right now. Im meaning to reread your stories, can you send them to me again ?

Lee, you never cease to amaze me in a happy way with your deep feelings of doing the right thing.

Re: Yet another problem

Hi guys.

Coming from a hospital near you. Admitted myself I must say the wait was over 14 hours before I got to bed in the hospital. I think I have solved some of the thinking issures I have had with these panic attacks, the pressure off the back has helped me somewhat. Just trying to manage myself and see where to go from here. See if I can get over night stay at my dads and see how that goes.

Parents said they would help me withh private rental as well if need be.

Re: Yet another problem

Glad to hear from you .. especially with that wee bit of wan humour in your opening line.

Your own sense of humour can become a core that will see you through tough times.
