Re: I dont know what to do next

@Owlunar I am sorry that you have had to live through this. I think in a lot of ways society has come a long way for the better. I have had a few female apprentices over the years and I am happy to say that they were payed the same as the males which is how it should have always been in my opinion. I spend a lot of time thinking about how we treat each other so poorly as humans but I guess there are some things that are improving

Re: I dont know what to do next

HI @Ant7

Thanks for being so understanding - society is changing and things are a lot different from over 50 years ago when my parents thought they were right to exert so much managing my life - even after I was married - hard to believe that my decision to have contact lenses or get my drivers licence were such a big deal even after I was married

My daughter got an apprenticehip but I have no idea what she was paid - I just don't remember asking or whatever - I probably did because I had to sign her indenture papers - and I am an accountant so I follow things like that up - I am really glad you treat your female apprentices equally - I think my daughter was treated fairly - it's a long time ago now

Back then the business that employed her had to take on a certain amount of female apprentices - I felt weird that was the reason she got an apprenticeship so easily - and back then there were no steel capped boots her size - but now there are so many female apprentices - they have to provide the right size in steel-capped boots

So - regardless of society and the changes or lack of them or their tardiness - my daughter is a highly qualified horticulturlist and I have been able to work as an accountant throughout my life - able to bring home more than my then-h because of his lazy nature and failure to hold a job - I had agencies and when he lost his job again - again - I was able to get work for a few weeks as a temp - used to temporary and emergencies - and did well - for years when my son was alive I could not work consistently and with my qualifications I had my own private professional as a temp

So as rough as it seems now - I enjoyed my working life and my daughter has been able to work consisently - only taking a few years off when my grand-daughter was born

Thinking back life could have been easier but I seem to have won out over it and feel that in spite of it all - my life has been challenging and worth my while - I wish everyone felt as good about their traversities as I do

Thanks Ant

Re: I dont know what to do next

Hi @Ant7 & @Owlunar,

I always meant to reply yesterday but ended up having a bit of a gloomy day. I'm still sick and that's getting me down... I've decided to go to work today but I don't know if it is the right decision or not. I really could not make up my mind about going to work. I don't feel like having another lonely day at home... usually I love being at home, so this is a turn-around.

I am coughing up a lot of stuff! It's yucky. Coughing disturbed my sleep.

I used to think that Australia would never see gay marriage but it turns out I was very wrong about that! I was soooo ignorant... I thought "Why on Earth would gay people want to get married?" Because I thought that gay people would view marriage as an old-fashioned, out-dated institution that belonged to heterosexual people, hence I just assumed they would reject marriage and something laughable and ridiculous that they would never want to do....

I thought they would want their own tradition or something. I don't know.

But now I see that gay people feel discriminated against because they can't marry under Australian law and so I totally support gay marriage.

It's funny how marriage is such a fashionable thing to do, now. I think 10 or 15 years ago people could take it or leave it... there are so many people who see living together as exactly the same thing as getting married or close enough, anyway.

But I don't know exactly what happened- but marriage is taking off again as the thing to do. I suppose that in another 15 years, no-one will care about marriage again.

@Sahara I am so sorry you are feeling no good that sounds terible. I had something simaliar a few weeks ago it was one of the worst colds/ flu I have ever had wiped me out for a week It is no good if it is afecting your sleep.

The gay Marriage thing to quote a guy I use to work with let them get married why should they be married lol. Seriosly I have friends they were married over seas and their marriage was recognised when they were married but the goverment changed the act in 2004 i think so their marriage is not recognised in this country any more. The implications are very far reaching If one of them dies the partner has no say in the funeral and can have a will challenged if their family was that way inclined

Hi @Ant7,

yes there are legal implications for marriage still, not many, but there are a few left. It will be interesting to see what happens with the postal vote- even though there has been a lot of debate in the media, I happen to think that very few people will take the time to fill in the vote and post it.

I think that a lot of what we see on tv is not really representatiove of what people really feel. I don't mean to say that people are against gay marriage- I doubt that they are, really. But I don't think they care enough to vote. Most people in Australia are very apathetic.

How are you both today, @Ant7 & @Owlunar? I am feeling a lot better, certainly not so low as what I was feeling. I am off to work again today.

Re: I dont know what to do next

Hi @Sahara and @Ant7

Honestly - I could say I didn't care about gay marriage - or any other marriage really - until I have been challenged by a referedum - and now I don't like the idea - I actually feel creepy about it

And regardless of what anyone thinks - we are all entitled to think and feel the way we think and feel - but yes - having to be legal about the issue - please take it away - okay - I will vote and it won't be an informal vote

Let's say had the gay community said nothing I would not have thought about it - but alas - I am not an apathetic person although about this I didn't care - and now I do - it would have been better if people had gone about their affairs had nothing been said

About wills - any will can be challenged and my parents' wills were not fair but remained unchallenged - I think if people get a really good lawyer to draw up a will then it is safer and stronger than a marriage certificate - after all - even a property settlement can be hashed around -

I think when it comes to property - if it is in both names it goes to the other person whose name is on the title - pretty sure that's true - it was - though things change

Whatever is right or wrong though - when people die one person in a family can really make it nasty for other people - legalities or not

Basically - I would rather not have been asked but now I have to make up my mind - and aw - dealing with property and funerals and settlements when things break down really brings out the white-anting in humanity

And today guys - I am tired - my back has been giving me a hard time since I got home and my house is rather cluttered and I need to attend to my chores

Feeling really tired
