Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

I get so tired of being strong and being positive and thinking of a new approach. I feel pull out positivity like a rabbit from a hat but that it can become false. I am now hypersentsitive and ambivalent about whether I should continue to post or withdraw.

I have had low self-talk and concentration poor.

My son has been the most loyal of all my family to me ..it worries me because he is vulnerable too.

Nobody else cares and I put a lot of effort into family events for decades.

I started swearing and calliing myself piece of dirt and other things like I am becoming a teenager.d .. but i dont want to have to be teenage boy all the time ..

I would like to have been useful

I have managed to get some help and am grateful, for what has worked.

Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

@PeppiPatty It's a long story with mum and I, as it is with lots of us I guess. We never had trouble communicating about our feelings to each other. But we were very volatile with each other verbally and emotionally since I was very young. We had a physical fight when I was 16 and trying to leave home (which I did). Even when I succeeded in living independently from that age Mum and I continued to have a very volatile relationship verbally and emotionally over the phone and in person for many years. I got very sick and wanted to suicide when I was about 28. This was when I was being the worst triggered by my parents, both of them. I couldn't handle it anymore and just cut off from them both for several years. During this time mum and I met for coffee a few times is all. It was a death that brought us together properly again. I had to tell my dad about it and so I also decided to contact mum again too, this time for real. I am so relieved that they both forgave me for doing this to them straight away. I had been grieving for them during the absence too. It wasn't instant happy families. But somehow things were different and we were able to move forward and grow from there. I had essentially separate relationships with them because they did not live together, though they never divorced.

and also to @Appleblossom and @Former-Member: If we were all of us around a table together we could have a winking session (silly).

Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

Sorry about that lame joke at the end of the last post, which was really serious and from the heart. But somehow it seems okay to talk about serious things with you all and have a laugh too. 🙂

Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

It was serious herstory @Mazarita and I appreciated that you shared it ... I left home at 16 too ... but mum came around within 2 weeks and since then they usually came to eat dinner wherever I was living ... ie the younger kids ...14, 12, 5 ... as they grew up etc

... you can make jokes any time ... and play us some Woody Guthrie on your guitar ...

Life is often a mixture of the tragic and comic ... you know I like Shakespeare... and I like Hannah Gadsby and a few Australian female standups too.

My son says my sense of humour's terrible ... but its almost obligatory for a son to say that.

Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

I also left home around 16 too, but went back and forth a bit over the next few years trying to look after mum and keep things together in the family. My lil sister came with me as soon as I was able to get her she was 13/14 then.

Re: Learning about Relationship Boundaries

I like Hannah Gadsby's deadpan style, tend to like deadpan comics in general. I'm going to get ready for bed, take meds, have a snack. Might still be around for a while longer but not sure. If I don't get back here, thanks so much for the chat tonight. Hugs all round.
