Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Re: Struggling to Survive

I had a moment today @Maggie,where I thought of a friend but get anxiety at the thought of someone asking questions such as "are you working?",and I know I can't trust them to keep it quiet.I have shut down talking to people. What I have gone through I like my privacy.I have stated before, never was allowed to grow and I feel like that child. When I lost weight I could relate to Eddie Murphy in the Nutty Professor, that fat person with problems was there waiting to burst out.

Thanks for sharing and Goodnight💕

@Zoe7 Hope you are handling the cold down there in Tassie.

@Former-Member Even "Talking about work" thing has become such an issue. Lots of people have mentioned their tips dealing with it! I have tried to nudge or move the heavy concrete door that surrounds it, but am utterly depleted atm. Sorry.

@Maggie Flat on your back looking at the sky. Love it.

My King of the Court slept up close to me through the whole night which is not like him. He often has little wanders.

Not andling the cold very well at the moment @Appleblossom It has been frreezing the last couple of days and since my heat pump 'died' on Thursday I haven't had any heat. Will be at least another few days until that can be replaced so I am rugging up and trying to stay as warm as I possibly can. I am already feeling the effects of having no heat - cold symptoms are back - just hoping they don't get much worse.

Re: Struggling to Survive

Sounds tough @Zoe7 Not sure I'd cope.

Guess you know all about layer and thermals. Being still and at home makes the cold seem worse but one can only walk so much!

Hang in there.

Re: Struggling to Survive

I can't walk anywhere @Appleblossom - still too physically unwell to do anything. I have to try to tackle things a little at a time - I have even just let Toby pull out his toys and left them all over the house - takes too much energy to pick them up. It is very frustrating and very demoralising to not be able to do the simple things but I am getting by atm the best I can!

@Zoe7

I love Tassie landscape but thinking of you Lady. DOnt worry about mess. When you are ready it wont take long to tidy ... and get messed up again.

I am going back to bed. I wish I knew what could make things better.

Be kind to you Bella

Re: Struggling to Survive

@Zoe7. Please stay as rugged up as possible. Thermal underwear - helps.
Don't worry about Toby's toys. Another day, another moment you will have the energy.
Today is the first day I cleaned up anything since I've been home from hospital. Still a messy house - but my bedroom floor is cleaner. I can move around. Did a tiny bit of mowing. Only 1/3rd of backyard. The rest can wait for another day of motivation. It comes when it comes.
Sending you warm hugs ♥

Re: Struggling to Survive

Wow @utopia - you are sounding more and more like the 'old' Utopia every day I have so missed my cocky friend - but it seems like she is back (not quite firing on all cyclinders yet but progressing). I don't lack the motivation as much now but the energy and strength. My body has deterioratedso much that I can't physically do things. It is going to take alot of time to even get back to doing the little things - and that is not only frustrating but adding to my emotional pain. I can't do things to distract myself or anything I have found joy in in the past. I would so love to be able to take Toby to the beach but the drive alone is too much. I can't walk more than about 100metres without my legs feeling like jelly, aching and occaionally 'giving way'. I can't hold a paintbrush for long without my arms doing the same. As for housework - well let's say that even a cleaner would take one look at my house and so 'I am not cleaning that' - there are things everywhere (alot is the result of my panic Thursday night when I thought the heat pump was going to explode after it started leaking gas). I really hate mess - not helping with my mental state either - but there is nothing I can do about it other than do a little at a time, rest and see how much more I can do. Being so cold is not helping there either - much harder to clean anything wrapped in a doona

Re: Struggling to Survive

Very hard to move around and do things when wrapped in a doona @Zoe7. I agree. This weekis a 'take it easy week'. When your heater is up and rrunning again, your muscles will warm up and you may have some energy to do the odd thing here and there.
But I hear you. Very frustrating to be in that place.
Well I'll wrap my arms around you gently and warm you up with a hug.
Please try and eat and drink. Plenty of water. Even hot cups of tea.
