Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Re: Struggling to Survive

@Former-Member I totally get that feeling I know that there are lot of people here that would care if anything happened to you. I also know that when you are feeling this way you can't see this or are unable to recognise this - and when you are right in the middle of the 'darkness' it doesn't matter anyway because you just want to stop the pain. We are here for you in those times to remind you that you matter to us and you are worthy of us caring for you. Ultimately it is your choice but if you want to just 'sit with' people that also have those feelings or to talk about what is happening for you then we are right here with you.

You matter to me @Former-Member and you do show immense strength in just reaching out here for support.

Re: Struggling to Survive

Thanks Zoe7,you struggle with the person you used to be,and the person you are now. Chatting here is my main form of communication.Got a brief housecleaning job tomorrow,my mother is going with my sister for three weeks or more which I am looking forward to the respite because she's been a large contribution to my stress this winter, but I will be alone, which I know can be had on the other hand.Im stressed because there's no jobs on the internet to apply for either,so that's a big pressure. The girl at the disability employment service was pushing me the other day for her own k.p.indicators.I will have to do something like carers or another medical certificate as I can't handle the Hopelessness of it all.She wanted me to ring employees I already went for jobs for.How much humiliation can I take?I can't I am sick from feeling that way.

Re: Struggling to Survive

You really should not be having to go through all this will re: job search @Former-Member You are not well enough to be having all this extra pressure placed on you. The problem with the system is that they do not actually take into account 'the person' - it is all about numbers, paperwork and policies that do not realistically reflect the 'human' situation. I can imagine how much added pressure this is all placing on you. I currently get so much less than I would if I was working and am finding it extremely tough to make ends meet - but I do not have the same pressures about looking for jobs or being treated so appallingly as you have been. Try and get a certificate to ease the pressure (even if it is for a little while). Then take it one day at a time after that. When you are home alone - don't forget that we are here for you and happy to listen (or chat) when you need.

Re: Struggling to Survive

Thanks @Zoe7,I have another appointment following Friday,I think I will have to see the doctor and get a medical certificate unfortunately which I hate because I'm back at square 1,been there sooo many times.Thats why I get down can't move forward see me going further back everyday.I liked her,the girl in job provider prior before but I can't make someone give me a job. They put shit on us to get a job that isn't there, especially in rural areas and even when I moved,I'm too old. Many times applied to pack shelves, reply is someone who had experience. You go in and they put on a young kid who doesn't move! Its not motivation,it's a big lack of confidence due to being vulnerable and in a welfare cycle I have.I hate going to the doctor too for this after that last doctor and getting a medical certificate because I can't get a job because I'm me.Thanks Zoe,hope you are having a OK day.💕 Thanks for caring.

Re: Struggling to Survive

The welfare cycle really sucks @Former-Member How do they expect you to be motivated to do anything when you keep getting knocked back for work. It is so unfair but you see it alot - 'younger' people are employed before more experienced people in some areas - and often because they can be paid less - and then in other areas they want experience that you can't get unless you get the job - it is a very flawed system!

I understand why it would be stressful going to the doctor after seeing those reports but you do need a little respite from all the job search worry @Former-Member.

I am ok today - just resting and staying warm after last night - so I will be around today to chat with you, listen or keep you company if you need

Thanks Zoe7 I've been reading in bed,too cold here to go for a walk.I've been in that cycle for a long time , starting 4 years ago when I had a reaction to antidepressants after only 3 days which caused months of agitation.I had to travel to that psychologist 1hr and 20 minutes away and I won't go to my local centrelink either.I am so ashamed of myself.💞

Re: Struggling to Survive

Reading in bed hey @Former-Member well that is very positive

I do understand a little when it comes to meds. It has now been around 10 months since the first ones I was given. Since then there have been numerous changes (I can't even count them anymore) and some have had some pretty severe side effects (which made it absolutely necessary to stop one lot, wait and start something new). It is that waiting period in between and the initial timeframe to adjust to a new med that is the hardest. Those have also been some of my worst days - and as you know those days can be not only scary but dangerous. I go back to the psychiatrist this Thursday and I don't know if meds are going to be changed again. I am leaving that completely up to my GP and psych this time because I don't know what is best atm. I have had more moments where I have felt 'ok' over the last week but the nights are still really hard.

You say it is cold there - it is actually snowing here atm It won't settle because it is too wet but it is pretty to watch. I have my blanket around me and Toby keeping me warm - so I'm sorted for now lol

You shouldn't feel ashamed of yourself - easier said than done I know - if you had any other type of illness it wouldn't be an issue - society has a lot to answer to in regards to the stigma surrounding MH.
