Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Oh @Zoe7 I so know the up and down journey having spent the last three days in and out of bed, only getting out for my fur baby. I know how the light can go out instantly without warning or apparent reason. I'm sitting with you, it's all I know to do. Words can strike like a blow sometimes, even coming from kindness. @Former-Member sitting with you too. @oceangirl You too, that is if you will have me here.

Thanks @Maggie, @Faith-and-Hope I hope @Zoe7 is waking up with some respite.I will write the complaint to that doctors surgery today, concerning that doctors'conduct and the word "motivation"on the medical certificate.I think anyone with a mental illness would be offended by seeing that as a barrier to employment when you are struggling mentally. It won't do nothing but if I can make this doctor more accountable for her attitude to prevent her getting away with this conduct it will be some comfort.

@Former-Member My friend had to write a letter complaining of behaviour also. You have a right to be heard, also others will benefit as the dr will gets a talking to. People don't realise depression can cause temporary paralysis of limbs, along with mental anguish. I hope you have a better day.

Thanks @Maggie, she's not the first one I've had but that day I closed the door on anymore help ,I made the decision to not put myself through that again.I know I'm struggling but realised the "help" is basically humiliation.💓

Re: Struggling to Survive

Hi @Former-Member, I have been following along with your story on various threads. I'm not sure how much you know of my story, but I have had many many horrendous experiences with various mental health professionals. Most of my issues now are due to those experiences rather than the original situation that brought me into contact with the mental health system in the first place. I hear you, I truly do, regarding how awfully bad "help" can be. However, I have now had two sessions with my amazing "turtle whisperer" psychologist and finally FINALLY I can see a way forward (even though I got smashed yet again by something during the week).

This means that out of the dozens of therapists I've had over the years, I've now found a second one who truly gets me (the other one being my uni counsellor) and who I know can help me. Obviously it is totally 100% up to you what you choose to do, but I can tell you from my experience that if you can find the right therapist, it can be life-changing in a positive way. The last two years have been horrendous in my world, but I can now say that I am glad I kept on keeping on long enough to find therapist-take-twelve.

Psssst @Faith-and-Hope. I'm not really here because I am working at staying off the forums a bit, but...I just had to sneak in to tell you something. Earlier (when I was also working at staying off the forums ) I read some posts of yours on another thread where you were helping a forumite with her muddle. A few months ago I told you that when I grow up, I want to be like you. Reading your posts this morning reminded me of that again. I think you are superly duperly amazing and awesome. {Withdraws into shell now for fear of getting hit in the head with a love heart}.

Re: Struggling to Survive

I hope there are therapist @Phoenix_Rising,who are accountable,do care, bring their own life experiences to practice and don't lose perspective through sitting their all day thinking how great it is to play Dr Phil.I discussed with you my experience with the psychologist at that practice. The doctor that day after her just finished me off.I seen the psychologist for over 6 months but came out several times feeling worse .Thanks for your insight friend.🌹
