Hi @outlander,
I haven’t been posting on the forums lately but I have been reading them and following what has been happening for you.
Finding a good GP is hard and quite an overwhelming task. (I'm struggling with it myself at the moment.) Is it possible to try sorting things out with your current GP before moving on to a new one?
It seems like your current GP is quite thorough and cares about your wellbeing, but she hasn’t been listening to you.
I know I find it challenging to articulate my needs, especially when I’m on the spot. Most times when I go to an appointment, I need to write down exactly what it is I want the health professional to know, before I get there. That way I can give them the piece of paper that says exactly what I want to say, in exactly the way I want to say it. Do you think you could try that with your GP? Write down what you’ve told us here—that it makes you really uncomfortable that she keeps insisting that you talk about the trauma, that you will be working through the trauma with your psychologist (which is where you feel most safe to do so), and be honest about the fact that you’ve been reluctant to see her (your GP) because of how uncomfortable you’ve felt in previous appointments. Also make sure you tell her what it is you do need from her.
I think it’s worth trying again to tell her that she has been making you feel uncomfortable by pushing you about the trauma—make it crystal clear so she can’t possibly misunderstand. If, after that, she she keeps doing it, then it’s time to look for someone else. But who knows, she might actually listen.
If you think it might be possible to fix the relationship, I think it is definitely worth trying. If it doesn’t work, at least you can cross one thing off your ‘con’ list.
Good luck with it all, whatever you decide to do.
bookish
