Struggling with identity is something many people have an issue with @outlander. Often we are judged by our profession. How many times when first meeting someone, does the question of "What do you do?" come up? I read a book once about the indigenous people of our country and when they are introduced to someone their first question is "Who is your tribe?"
My kids are largely independent so my role as a mother is no longer as pertinent as it used to be. My parents have passed away so I'm nobody's offspring anymore. Out of my three siblings, I only have communication with my brother who lives 2000kms away. I'm not in a relationship so I'm not a wife or partner. I don't have a job outside the home so I don't have colleagues. And since my trauma, I have kept away from most of my friends. I have only really lived where I am for six months so don't feel part of the community. So basically, my identity is a bit vague.
You are a daughter (with a mother who depends on you, even though she doesn't show appreciation), you are a sister (whose siblings are in your care a lot of the time) and a grand daughter (and you get on well with your Pop) You have those family ties.
You are a student who is continually learning and achieving great results which will open doors to other career paths.
You are an employee who works with horses and fulfills an important role in their care.
You have friends in your community.
And you have your whole life ahead of you. The family dynamics pretty much suck but if moving out isn't an option and your mother and boyfriend haven't taken steps to go either, you are stuck with coping the best you can. I read something very enlightening this morning about emotional triggers and how we should make a conscious response rather than a knee jerk reaction which we usually later regret.
It seems that you are very confused about how to make your life better. Making choices isn't easy especially when we worry about choosing the wrong path. We wish that someone could make them for us but we aren't in your situation and can only offer suggestions at best.
The one thing that I can guarantee though is that all this will pass. Good times never last forever and neither do bad ones. Life has its ebbs and flows.

I don't know if I can help you @outlander,the moderator pulled a post yesterday so I didn't get back on.I thought I kept it safe",and the way I felt rejection contributed to it.
You know you need to do what's right for you and not to get dependent on anyone else to make decisions for you.You need all the above,I wouldn't increase psychologist appointments if costs were involved but that's up to you. There is only so much you can get out of it like anything else.I think we will always have bad days, fact of life you just have to fine tune it to make sure measures are in place to ensure you are there tomorrow. This is very hard.I do suggest if you had that experience yesterday you do get to the GP if he/she is reliable. You do need to have a check and it doesn't mean wheeling you off to hospital because the way you are you have insight of your problems and that's a good thing.
