Hey @outlander 🙂

I've been waiting for a good time to catch up with you about the books we were talking about last week (feels like last year now!) on the other thread (which I also didn't want to post in in case it brought up stuff for you). It's been tricky to find a time that seems ok for both of us to bring this up. It's tricky just posting this post! :S

I got a bit confused with the DBT book, and ended up getting one that wasn't the one I initially thought it would be. I wanted to let you know because we were talking about it.

I'm waiting on my copy of the DBT skills manual and so is phoenix_rising. The skills manual is a/the resource for providing DBT. I had a look at the target audience and it says it's aimed at professionals so I'm not 100% sure it would be the best book to read just before you start DBT as a client, which I think I remember you mentioning you're on a waitlist for. It might be worth waiting until you've given it a chance with professional support. In saying that, I'm not going to suggest I know what's best for you (ever) so I thought I'd mention what I know about it and leave it up to you. I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten you.

If you don't think this one is right for you or right for you right now, there are stacks of fairly readily available (like at a library) books on trauma recovery and I'd be more than happy to give a different one a go too, or suggest others I have read and then re-read one with you at some stage. Some of them I've found really helpful. I and a few others read The Body Keeps the Score, which there is a thread about on here. It had some really interesting points about trauma and the body, which could be helpful. No pressure with any of it though.

Hope today is ok for you 🙂

@CheerBear @outlander just throwing my 2 cents worth about your post as I've done 7months of DBT skills group. I wouldn't get the book you're talking about as it is aimed at professionals, and although you are given the worksheets as homework, you need someone to explain it and go through examples first. DBT therapy can be a little overwhelming at times, so to add this on top probably wouldn't be helpful. @outlander I don't know about your other thread but when you feel comfortable tag me in and if it's resources you are after, I know some good books on Amazon and good websites for DBT as well. Same goes for @CheerBear and the @Pheonix_Rising. There are some peer support groups on Facebook, but I wouldn't be able to recommend any as I think it's a real individual fit. Plus obviously the issue of identification of myself, and many are trigger heavy. I hope this helps for everyone. I'm also happy to help out with any questions you have of DBT.
