Well don't do anything outlander except small gradual changes, one step at a time.Step 1 :allow drugs to work.Step 2:up to you.

A retreat is a waste of time because you are not ready to change your life .

Re: when is it time for hospital

Hey @outlander. I know what it's like to be stuck and wanting to make changes to your life but not sure how or where or what the next move is. Most of us don't enjoy being stuck at all, and I know sometimes it is not so much a case of being ready to make changes as it is that right now we're actually unable to for whatever reasons. I have a feeling you're in the latter. I also think that you are trying to make changes, in that you're reaching out, looking at options, discussing you're situation openly with people who you hope can help.. etc. I think it's really important sometimes to acknowledge that these things can take lots of courage and effort, especially when time and time again they don't seem to be working as well as they could.

As for study, it's always been the best strategy I've had to get through. It's given me a sense of direction, meaning and purpose. It's given me an identity, a distraction, a source of information, access to things I wouldn't have had otherwise and a constructive outlet for my energy. In saying that, there's no doubt in my mind that there's a time for it, as it adds a stress that on top of the other stressors I have, can be overwhelming. For me, I know that in the middle of crisis study is not a good thing at all. Not being able to study hurts terribly, but failing at study or neglecting my other responsibilities so I can focus on study, would be worse.

@Former-Member - While I can understand many people's reluctance to engage with support services, and experience a significant level of this myself, I don't agree at all that suggesting the option of a mental health retreat was inappropriate or would be a waste of time. It's potentially a chance for outlander to take some time out from these responsibilities and sources of stress. It could be the respite that allows Outlander a chance to focus on herself and work out what is next. At the very least it may possibly be an opportunity for just a break from it all, in a supportive environment.

Hope today is a little less busy for you @outlander and you have a moment to do something that feels good for you.

Re: when is it time for hospital

I think going to the hospital is different for everyone.

For me, if i start to seriously isolate, stop sleeping, getting paranoid and aggressive and taking steps toward self defence of threats real or percieved....then it is def. time to get in the hospital.

Everytime i have been hospitalized, it has been because life gets too scary to handle. Crisis mode like 24/7...

The main goal for those who look for hospitalization, is to avoid harm to the patient or anyone else. This doesnt have to be physical harm...it could be mental...

Re: when is it time for hospital

@outlander - there's no need to worry about replying to any posts. I think we can all understand how hard it can be during crises.

Hope it passes soon for you
