Focussing on the positives-

Focussing on the positives-

@Former-Member @soul @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51 + everyone

I don't for a minute think that I am alone here but the last couple of weeks have been particularly difficult for our family with my darling quite unwell and going back into hospital for the third time in the last 6 months. I have not coped with this well at all, along with one of our children in particular, with additional unnecessary challenges added to the mix only making things worse. (The support here has been a significant help for that I am very grateful).

What I am aware of is that, while it helps to talk things through, far better to talk about things than to internalise them, it is very easy for me to get unnecessarily angry and bitter about our situation and dwell on things too much creating a downward spiral in my coping ability. It also affects my sleep.

To counter this I am making a commitment to find at least 1 positive thing that has happened and at least 1 thing to be grateful for each day and post it here. And if I can manage it, at least 1 thing that has made me laugh. (Posting it here as a form of accountability to make sure I actually do it 🙂

I had a glimmer of light on Saturday by consciously listng things to be grateful for but slipped back into the sulks on Sunday (no negatives in this thread so no explanation as to why here). So based on this I am making a commitment to consiously note these things each day.... please feel free to call me out if I dont 🙂 that woud be huge help 🙂

  1. Something postiive that has happened today.
  2. Something to be grateful for today.
  3. If I can manage it- somthing that made me laugh today.

Something positive for today.

I just had some work confirmed for next semester. Its only 5 hours per week but that's all I want or need at the moment. Nice distraction and a little bit of pocket money.

Something to be grateful for today.

Got an email from S2 teacher saying he had a good day. Nice change from the past couple of weeks of negative feedback from the school.

That's a double positive. Great start to the week @Determined

1 exam down. Managed finally some clarity in reviewing course material this morning. Last couple of days have had me a little concerned but most of it made sense during todays review.

Something to be grateful for today

While I probably wont get the mark I hoped for I will get a good pass so considering the past few weeks I am grateful for that.

Something that made me laugh today.

My darling came to visit me at the uni with bub. (Even though I was hiding there for a reason). When she was leaving bub reached out for me, I took him to carry him out to the car but he had other ideas. He blew mummy a kiss and waved her good bye 😅 was not a happy camper when I handed him back.

We both had a giggle though with the kiss and wave.

Yes @Former-Member

He is a real little daddy's boy. Felt bad seeing him cry as they left and was most thankful mummy did not take it personally.

Have seen a glimmer of improvement in my darling (post treatment) with regards to emotional connection. She is looking forward to my final exam, school holidays and some family time. Soo looking forward to that also.

Something yo be grateful for.

While I got no work done today (I really needed to) I achieved some much needed rest that hopefuly will make my work efforts more efficient tomorow.

Something that made me laugh.

Too tired to laugh today, spent most of it sleeping. Things are looking up though so watch this space as the saying goes 😉

Re: Focussing on the positives-

Well done @Determined. Told you I'd hold you to it.

Today my best friend took me to lunch to celebrate my birthday from yesterday. Lucky for her but not for me, she is going away for a month's holiday. Every week for some time now she has met with me, dragging me out of my sadness and despair and lifting my spirits. Everyone should have a friend like her.

I think we all need to laugh a bit or even a lot more. Don't you love how kids find the most simple things funny and laugh in such an uninhibited way. We lose that as we grow up.

Thanks for the call out @soul, I need that to keep me to my word. Its all about priorities and the squeaky wheel effect lol .

That would have been nice to go out to lunch like that @soul, I unfortunately dont have any really close friends like that 😕 guy frommchurch sort of, but we have different interests and he is really busy. I need to make more ofnan effort to get iut myself. Trying to convince myself to go join the local photography club. See how I go. Tried a number of years ago but they were all old people who were not much interested in 'intruders' so I lost interest.

Re: Focussing on the positives-

I have friends from all manner of sources @Determined including those I went to school with, ex work colleagues, parents of my kids' friends, ex neighbours etc. When I left my hometown and after things turned bad for me, I chose not to reconnect. Some of them sent me several messages but I would make some excuse or even not respond.

I didn't want to answer any questions they may have had and I'm no good at lying. It was easier just to withdraw.

I'd give the photography club a go again. If you feel uncomfortable, you're under no obligation to return - you've got nothing to lose.

Decided to bin this comment as it was not in keeping with the thread title lol.

Supposed to be focusing on the positives... 😉
