Focussing on the positives-

Focussing on the positives-

@Former-Member @soul @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51 + everyone

I don't for a minute think that I am alone here but the last couple of weeks have been particularly difficult for our family with my darling quite unwell and going back into hospital for the third time in the last 6 months. I have not coped with this well at all, along with one of our children in particular, with additional unnecessary challenges added to the mix only making things worse. (The support here has been a significant help for that I am very grateful).

What I am aware of is that, while it helps to talk things through, far better to talk about things than to internalise them, it is very easy for me to get unnecessarily angry and bitter about our situation and dwell on things too much creating a downward spiral in my coping ability. It also affects my sleep.

To counter this I am making a commitment to find at least 1 positive thing that has happened and at least 1 thing to be grateful for each day and post it here. And if I can manage it, at least 1 thing that has made me laugh. (Posting it here as a form of accountability to make sure I actually do it 🙂

I had a glimmer of light on Saturday by consciously listng things to be grateful for but slipped back into the sulks on Sunday (no negatives in this thread so no explanation as to why here). So based on this I am making a commitment to consiously note these things each day.... please feel free to call me out if I dont 🙂 that woud be huge help 🙂

  1. Something postiive that has happened today.
  2. Something to be grateful for today.
  3. If I can manage it- somthing that made me laugh today.

Hi @outlander

Thought I would tag you here in case the link on your thread dud not work.

As you will see I have not been overly consistent but what I can say is that when I am posting here it is not because my situation is any better but in consiously acknowledging the positives in my day gives me hope and strength and makes getting through today and even tomorrow easier.

I know how overwhelming much well intentioned advice can be so please just see this as my perspective of what helps me.

Positive for today. 😆

Recently I was invited to apply for a volunteer leadership by the university where I study. The role relates to running study groups and workshops for fellow students and comes with additional training and more importantly will be a fantastic add to my cv.

I was contemplating withdrawing my application over the weekend due to an impending crisis but aparently it is very flexable so I should be able to work around any roadblocks.

This afternoon I recieved confirmation that I have been accepted for the role. This has given me a much needed boost in confidence. The training and working in this role will also be invaluable in my future career path. So while it will at times be a challenge meeting the commitment it will be great for my confidence and from a self care point of view will give me something productive and measureable to do out side of study.

Have a few more hoops to jump through but looking forward to the challenge. It will require again heading oht of town for the training (so over that drive) but it will be worthwhile and I am looking forward to it .

Congrats to you @Determined. That really is great news. They obviously saw something in you that they felt made you suitable for the role. I hope that you find it rewarding in more ways than one.

And yes, it will be something to give you a distraction as well as some additional social interaction.

Something to be grateful for today

Went to church this morning and someone had left a large box of groceries for us. Really touched and felt like crying. Was a note inside 'to God be the glory' .

It is more a blessing that I don't have to go shopping or think about what we may need than actually needing the supplies. We are quite fortunate material wise. It is just touching that someone has noticed that all is not well with us and quietly done something about it.

Another lady gave us a bag of produce from her garden.

Wonderful news @Determined - congrats!! It's uplifting when these opportunities spring up when we most need them. It's a great feeling - something you made happen through hard work. You should feel confident. You have what it takes my friend to rise above it all

It was very touching to read of the thoughtful caring people that left you the groceries. It's people like you and them that makes the world a better place. Keep going...

Re: Focussing on the positives-

I have so much to be grateful for this week even though it has been a roller-coaster and I'm not sure where this next week will lead us.

I have been so humbled by love and concern shown not only to me but our family from so many unexpected sources.

I had a lady I work with give me a random hug on Monday morning (I thought wow. do I really look that bad), felt like crying. Boss lady keeps reminding me to take it easy and ask if I need any help, had one of the men from church call and check in mid week and this morning after church one of the men came across genuinly concerned for how we were going. Have been trying to keep a happy face but it's not working any more lol. Feeling a bit like @Former-Members olf fart post over on the laughter thread.

My darling has also had people call her and keep on touch which has been an encouragement for her.

Genuinly grateful for all the love that has been shown to our family this week
