Grief & loss - may be triggering

Grief & loss - may be triggering

@ lapses
Early last year 2016 my Dad died after a long painful illness (cancer), which he had been fighting for 6 years.

He survived that long only because of continuous treatments, otherwise he would have been gone in 6 months (they said).

My relationship with him had been somewhat distant at times - due my living in a different state from my entire family for the past 22 years.

Also due to my tumultuous upbringing & family background - which is why I could not stay in the city where I grew up, & chose to live here (3000 kilometres away) instead.

Also wanting to start anew 22 years ago, with needs for greater independence.

Yet those hopes to start a family of my own have never been realized. My marriage ended abruptly, & took my cherished plans & hopes for the future with it.

Then I was confronted with the memories of my SA only 3 months after the end of my marriage - which again turned my life upside-down. My gender identity was shaken, & I no longer felt secure with the sense of identity that I once had.

Followed by a severe health emergency - with 2 emergency bowel surgeries, a stoma & bag for 6 months.

Then a 3rd major bowel surgery to try to put things back together. I almost died twice in hospital they told me.

My siblings & I had found Dad to be emotionally distant & scary right into our adult lives - yet in the last few years we found him to be a kind, intelligent & very caring man. So it was so much harder to lose him.

Due to the stress of having to find a new job, having complex PTSD, & not coping well with the conditions of this occupation (carer) - I've been unable to effectively come to terms with my grief & loss.

It seems that my grief has been largely on hold for the past 14 months since Dad died. I don't feel in touch with it, despite my best efforts to.

I see a psychologist, yet we've been unable to do grief work, or help me to come to terms with the loss of my Dad.

I've remembered very little about him in the past year, which makes it harder - as I have so few memories to draw upon.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Thanks @TheVorticon Yes maybe pre built is the way for me to go at the moment.

The good news is the repair place said that the CPU & mother board tested out fine - they hadn't gone bung, as I was told was likely (by another place).

They reckoned a power surge had hit the computer, & said they "flushed it" whatever that means. It runs fine now (for the moment).

Although I don't trust it to keep on running, because the same place said they "flushed the RAM" 2 years ago - & I still had on going computer problems for months after that.

@Former-MemberSorry, I forgot. H.N is Harvey Norman, where I originally bought my computer - & where I've bought most of my computer parts & stuff.

Thanks for being proud of me for putting the new finch nests in the aviary, even though I was overwhelmed by the computer breakdown & kitchen light cord switch failure. I was proud of myself too.

Yes I do have a way with animals sometimes. I can get strange (unknown) cats to come over to me, when I call them (for a pat).

Birds in shop aviaries sometimes come up close to me on the wire, when I tweet at them.

I went out looking for Minx puss in the pitch black (dark). I called for her, & she finally came. So at least I've got her inside, out of the rain & cold.

Oh that's cool that it's working at the moment @Adge. But yeah, it may be on its way out. Hmmm, not sure how one "flushes" a PSU or RAM. Although probably shouldn't trust me anyway, given that the way I accidentally destroyed my old PSU involved smoke and burning plastic!

Glad your cat came inside. Hope you have a good night.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Thanks @TheVorticon Yeah the repair people confuse me with techno gibberish, & I don't understand any of what they've actually done.

My brother who used to work in computer repairs said they don't actually flush anything. He said when they say that, it's a cover-all phrase for "We don't know what was wrong with it, but it's working now"...

@Former-MemberYes I agree, I just want to throw computers out the window when they're not working. It's stressful, especially when I need it for work.

It's been a long tiring day, with over 100km of driving to appointments - my psych & the grief study at the university.

@Former-MemberThe computer outcome is that I've "bit the bullet", tried to "cut my losses" - & have just paid an exorbitant amount of $$ (or more than I can budget for) on a new computer.

So we'll see how that goes, I won't have it for a few days yet - because I paid them extra to copy the contents of my old hard drive across to the new comp, & to install new software etc.

I'll wait till I get my brain back (it's gone at the moment), before I see if I can remember anything to tell you about the grief study session.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Good on you @Adge, i'm glad youve found a computer solution. Think a new computer is the safest bet (esktop or laptop? rarely use my desktop). Its good for the brain to learn new skills, so just do a little on it every day and you'll get there.
Maybe you could stop for a coffee after your grief session and journal to debrief or process it. Even come on here and tell us, before your long drive home. I'm glad you're getting quality pointed help with this. Hope you sleep well.tonight 💜💕

hello @Adge

When I have appointments I have a very long drive too

how far do you drive to see your psychiatrist?

I get Skype sessions paid by Medicare because of the distance

Do I depict some humour with the remembering anything of the grief session

sounds like the beginnings of a book... Am intrigued

apologies if you weren't being humorous

@Former-Member It was good to see your photo of your dog, even though it will be one of the last. It was a cosy and real and you did your best keeping him as long as you could.

@Adge

Bengalese finches sound amazing. I saw a three eagles at the zoo today. Its soothing watching them swoop, but I am lucky I am not their prey.

Nnnnnggggg computers. Its been a few months of frustration for me. Lucky I dont have to do much so when they dont work .. I dont get too annoyed. Had a fancy new modem arrive today which my son set up ... but it has been one thing after another. We are on a boundary of nbn being put on. I dont know whether that has anything to do with it.
