Grief & loss - may be triggering

Grief & loss - may be triggering

@ lapses
Early last year 2016 my Dad died after a long painful illness (cancer), which he had been fighting for 6 years.

He survived that long only because of continuous treatments, otherwise he would have been gone in 6 months (they said).

My relationship with him had been somewhat distant at times - due my living in a different state from my entire family for the past 22 years.

Also due to my tumultuous upbringing & family background - which is why I could not stay in the city where I grew up, & chose to live here (3000 kilometres away) instead.

Also wanting to start anew 22 years ago, with needs for greater independence.

Yet those hopes to start a family of my own have never been realized. My marriage ended abruptly, & took my cherished plans & hopes for the future with it.

Then I was confronted with the memories of my SA only 3 months after the end of my marriage - which again turned my life upside-down. My gender identity was shaken, & I no longer felt secure with the sense of identity that I once had.

Followed by a severe health emergency - with 2 emergency bowel surgeries, a stoma & bag for 6 months.

Then a 3rd major bowel surgery to try to put things back together. I almost died twice in hospital they told me.

My siblings & I had found Dad to be emotionally distant & scary right into our adult lives - yet in the last few years we found him to be a kind, intelligent & very caring man. So it was so much harder to lose him.

Due to the stress of having to find a new job, having complex PTSD, & not coping well with the conditions of this occupation (carer) - I've been unable to effectively come to terms with my grief & loss.

It seems that my grief has been largely on hold for the past 14 months since Dad died. I don't feel in touch with it, despite my best efforts to.

I see a psychologist, yet we've been unable to do grief work, or help me to come to terms with the loss of my Dad.

I've remembered very little about him in the past year, which makes it harder - as I have so few memories to draw upon.

Walking with you @Owlunar, the Grief tide, tsunami of annibversaries. Mid July, soon I guess, butbits never just one day, its the week or so lead up and then getting over it, well, for me anyway, it wipes out a whole month, and that's if nothing stunts (distracts me from) the process. It doesn't go, it has to be processed, don't you think. HugzDec💜

Walking with you @Owlunar, found a lovely pic to post for you but having problems loading again, try again tonight. You be kind to yourself, maybe light a candle, watch a movie, as @Appleblossom would say 'gently bently'.

How's our @Adge going? 🐦🐥🐤🐥🐦🐣 Thinking through you too Adge

I have afternoon shift at shop, wish me luck 🙂

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

I went back to work today (Thursday) @Former-Member, even though still ill. It's been a long haul.

My workplace does not know how to treat any staff well - they hit me with a major change of shift (clients) for today, at 6.30am before I even left.

Then expected me to do extra drop-offs (take clients home) much later than I was scheduled (or asked) to - nearly 1 hour possibly not paid for.

They often short-change our pay, & severely underestimat our travel times (with clients), taking clients home - therefore we don't get paid for an hour or two (every single week) that we should be paid for.

What a way to welcome someone back, after they've been recovering from illness...

I'm just hoping that I don't get seriously ill again, after having gone back to work - because that's exactly what happened last Thursday (I got much worse).

Have a good night everyone.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Thanks @Former-Member I was hit & punched again by client today - always puts me into a shock state. Scary & very hard to deal with.

I start my first grief session with the grief study (uni) lady next Tuesday. Something different, possibly helpful to look forward to.

How's your painting going, have you painted anything else recently?

I've heard of those waves of grief, maybe I've had that but I'm not sure.

Mostly I just seem to plod along in survival (or stress) mode - without really being in touch with my grief (although I've wanted to).

That's probably because their have been so many external stressors, things to adjust to since Dad died (as well as one loss compounded on top of another).

Have a good night everyone.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

It's been a rough few days.

Dizziness & nausea - maybe it's due to this virus & secondary infection I've been recovering from.

The shock & overwhem of having my computer go bung yesterday - which I need to do work casenotes & to use this forum etc.

My brother's mother in law is not expected to live long, due to cancer.

My other brother has been in hospital emergency for severe effects from an antidepressant medication.

Too much at once. I need my computer for so many work requirements - I don't know if it can be fixed.

Overwhelmed.

Where's the energy & focus to work through grief, or to move forward & put things back together?

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Sounds like whole bunch of roadblocks and worry all at once @Adge Wish I could fix one of them for you. Maybe start saving for a new laptop. Glad you have the phone to go online at least. Good to see you 🐦🌿🌷💕
