Coping Box

Coping Box

Hi Guys,

My psychologist came up with an awesome idea to help me when I'm feeling urges to SH or suicidal or if I'm having a hard time coping.

It's called a Coping Box. You get a box and put things in that are helpful to you. So I have a good book, a disney movie, pictures of my pets and animals. It's also got some puzzles, a stuffed toy and a video game.

So @NikNik and I thought it'd be good to make one here for members. We can put in photos and quotes and all sorts of good things to help remind what we are fighting for.

I'm gonna put in some caramello koalas, and my favourite fuzzy blanket so you can wrap yourself up at feel cozy and safe.

I will also throw in a 'hug'. So if you ever need a hug, come over here and I'll be waiting and ready with a hug and ready to listen.

Imagine being an astronemer, daily examining the stars every night, little flickering diamond lights, some brighter than others, the brighter ones being the guideposts to help find the universe. one of those flickering diamond lights has gone out for you, it takes a while to adjust to the hole in the sky.

Re: Coping Box

I'd add some comedy dvd's like
* Ab Fab
*The Vicar of Dibley
* Mrs Browns Boys

& my super soft dressing gown - so warm.
Really something soft to cuddle or stroke.

& potato chips. Need the crunch sensation. & the salt.

Lots of hugs, Peppi. Warm soft hugs 🙂

I'm hooked on You've Got Mail at the moment, it is just a plain old "feel good" movie, and I really need that lately.

Re: Coping Box

I have just stumbled across this beautiful thread and realised that I have one without having realised it.

I have a rear vision mirror that pops up when I feel down. A rear vision mirror that shows me the dark places I've been and that those places are so far behind me and I know I won't be going there again.

There is the box with all the theatre and concert tickets. A box full of memories of pure enjoyment and I can revel in the memory.

Then there is the box with all the tickets still to come; performances to look forward to.

Right on top of the box is a reminder to sing ... and I do ... I sing all the depression out of my system.

Re: Coping Box

Hello, that is a useful tool and find it great, in mine I also have what is known as the naughty coping things, like written words of my dark days, what and why reasons for SH, why I had so much hate, but in there are the happy endings, like finding the right help, taking myself off a shit load of heavy Narcotic drugs that were a bandaid for my issues, talking through the problems and writing a journal each day was great thearpy, that is in my coping box.

HOw we choose to cope with our illness is different for everyone, my coping box is locked and in the past, well 90% of it. Sure everything never goes away all together but it can be put in a box. Hope you are continuing to be well

Re: Coping Box

IHiya all .....

Posted this on another thread, but @NikNik had suggested I drop it into the Coping Box as well ..... so here it is .....

Hi @NikNik 😊

When I am having a blah day, I call it a pyjama day, whether I'm in pyjamas or not, and take the day off .... as much as I can get away with it around here, that is ....

I have been known to go out in actual pyjamas on pyjama days .... but they have to be pyjamas that resemble real clothes, enhanced by a scarf and boots or something, but that's about it .... 😌

I am not alone in this endeavour .... I have seen people in Mickey Mouse pyjamas or Onesies in our local supermarket, albeit after about 7pm .... adult people that is .... 😏

What else I will do on pyjama days is make a list of three things .... that's the deal with pyjama days .... and even if I don't achieve the three things, I am obliged to try.

The three things might be -

1️⃣. Put a load of washing through the machine.

2️⃣. Give myself a sponge bath and change underwear.

3️⃣. Make dinner.

One of the three things has to be a self-care item ..... ✅

Oh, and I have to eat ..... even if it's a bag of nuts or savoury biscuits, banana, something that has food value .... ✅

It's what I call "having a day" ..... And "running raids on the housekeeping from my room" ....✅
