Locked out/in

Locked out/in

Hi everyone @Appleblossom @Zoe7 @Shaz51 @TAB @Bow @Dimity 🙂

Haven't been here a while, welcome to anyone to comment and say hi!

How are you?

Im struggling a bit with the NDIS at the moment. My funding was cut a great deal. I had decided to go on a carer respite while i still had funding, tongiht, but it went very badly 😞 i am now back at home. I hope everyone is doing okay x

Re: Locked out/in

@EternalFlower the aged care sector also seems vulnerable to unqualified providers and highly inflated prices for services. A consequence of privatising care and making it a market for profit instead of a human right and societal responsibility.

I'm sorry to hear about your trust issues but they're entirely understandable. I empathise with your caution. It's a pity your sister lives interstate.

I'm estranged from most of my family. The family was always dysfunctional but things got even worse when my parents needed care and later died.

Many people are vulnerable and isolated - I see it in myself and others I know. We get by as best we can.

Re the firefighting I waited all day for a promised phonecall that never came. I'll have to follow up tomorrow.

Do you follow through with your arts interests between the hospital art therapy opportunities?

Re: Locked out/in

@Dimity part of my issue is i'm too gung ho - so i have to stop contacting the service, because its public mental health and they do what they want, not on my timeline.

I hope they contact tomorrow, this meeting has been rescheduled so many times. My sis said to wait til monday. No one answers or responds. I haven't been able to get back to sleep as i'm so stressed about it.

I hope you are doing okay, it is meant to be a nice day today here, there is a bakery and coffee shop near me so when sun comes up i'll sit there for a bit. Getting my flu shot today 🙂 @PeppyPatti lovely to have you here.

Love your bright personality @PeppyPatti

@EternalFlower

I am glad you at least have your sister to talk with. I met another social worker socially, who has a sibling with severe mental health issues, not you, a brother, but there are lots of reasons they get into that line of work.

I was careful socially and very isolated too, when I first came to Sane. An idiot CATT team worker told me I was not isolated, as if she knew. For decades, I had been careful not to share the scandalous parts of my life, for silly gossipy people, but these days, it comes out. I cant keep it locked up inside, and if they cant cope, at least I know they are not a friend. I seem similarly to get used, and did lots of listening and encouragement all my life. I am really trying to find different aspects of my personality to be better at being social. It seems important for me that not, have to pretend to happier than I am, even though I am working hard to find humour and light-heartedness. Its just that there is a lot of stuff that is serious and vulnerable about me.

Thanks for posting those videos. It is important for people to be aware. I feel I am too open with my support workers, but dont know how else to be. The companies keep changing their personnel and names which is getting me annoyed, but I also guess I have no option but to follow through and find out if the new lot are as ethical as they say they are. Its very wearying. In another time, back in the 1970-80s, I worked in various government departments against fraud. We went on different kinds of evidence, but I am a bit shocked about how fragmented the NDIS system is leaving it open to be abused by unscrupulous predators.

I feel stressed trying to make sure that my plan is used in the best possible way, but I guess I am lucky I have it. I am so used to submitting in relationships. I am not sure I am going to call it trust issues, when there has been betrayal. But no openness to hope and getting along with people is a closed life, so I keep standing up agian, dusting myself off and taking the next step. Posting on the forum was a huge step for me being more assertive. I know I have studied and have ideas etc, but holding boundaries for my personal rights seems very tricky for me. I keep conceding. In the 1980s, a shrink said I give my power away. Anyway. Work in progress.

Enjoy your coffee and treat.

Re: Locked out/in

@EternalFlower the bakery cafe sounds good.

Waiting to hear about your appt sounds frustrating especially if there's been a series of cancellations.

I have to get a bus to the post office this afternoon (an effort).

Re: Locked out/in

@Appleblossom @Appleblossom @TAB @Dimity

the ndis is way too fragmented @Appleblossom its so "shift work" set up with no continuity of care

in public mental health they have meetings and teams, but in ndis no one i work with speaks to each other

i also find the indstry attracts bullies. Some ppl like having control over us, I also submit in a way, give away power. Defer to authority.

@Dimity a bus is a huge step, did you manage it? I didn't get to the bakery 😞 But my friend dropped over 3 muffins. The meeting has been rescheduled, but to a telehealth, late next week. They were nice and "thanked me for my patience," which was at least kind.

I asked if we can meet in person. Not sure the balance between pushing and being "patient." I'm a mess.

My GP said with public menatl health it's fighting the system and not a person and i have to remember this. Systems break, but people care.

Hope you're doing well all. Hello @TAB @Bow

Re: Locked out/in

It's hard secondguessing yourself @EternalFlower . I don't think you were aggressive or overassertive, just authentic in your need to be seen .

I got the bus which was crowded with students, and came home via the shops. Picked up a sandwich so I didn't need to cook tonight. Wasted day really. I tried to sort my medical records problem - I lodged a case - but couldn't get onto the practice manager. They said to try Monday.

Hope you sleep better tonight

The meeting being on thursday is still further than I'd like but i'm hanging in there.

It is to receieve psychology support through the public system. I have chosen the psychologist I like.
