Locked out/in

Locked out/in

Hi everyone @Appleblossom @Zoe7 @Shaz51 @TAB @Bow @Dimity 🙂

Haven't been here a while, welcome to anyone to comment and say hi!

How are you?

Im struggling a bit with the NDIS at the moment. My funding was cut a great deal. I had decided to go on a carer respite while i still had funding, tongiht, but it went very badly 😞 i am now back at home. I hope everyone is doing okay x

Re: Locked out/in

I enjoyed art and craft therapy too @EternalFlower . I don't think I've done any since. I'm with a private psychiatrist but suddenly realised recently we haven't been on the same wavelength and it was a shock. I haven't had much luck with psychologists, I started with them very late but am hoping the current one can help.

Private health cover is incredibly expensive.

Re: Locked out/in

@Dimity It is very expensive. My sister pays for mine for me. Did you ever try the public hospital route? I wander coz when they didn't want me they cited because i have private health cover, so i guess if someone doesn't have it maybe it puts more onus on them. That would be absolutely shocking re the private psychiatrist, was it something they said suddenly?

One time with my ex psych he made me up a safety plan, and I was really triggered by what he put there. It seemed he didn't know me at all, and he also wrote down explicit statements nurses and staff should use with me like "You must be having such a hard time" "You sound so scared" "You must be struggling so much," - and I thought it was really bad that he sort of had these canned responses. I quit soon after.

mostly i just draw things with circles lol as i don't know how to draw -

Re: Locked out/in

Yes I've been in public hospitals too @EternalFlower . But not in a psych ward for more than a day since the whole mh system changed and the big public psych hospitals closed. My public hospital arranged admissions to my private hospital several times.

Yes the psych said something out of the blue - yelled it actually - when he'd already upset me by refusing several times to acknowledge the death of my cat. I'm dreading the next appointment and will feel unable to share what's happening for me in the usual way. It's contributed to my stress in the last few weeks. Obviously, the relationship and his view of me hadn't been what I'd thought. It was a shock.

Re: Locked out/in

@Dimity thats so scary and unsettling, and i'm sad that the psych reacted that way to your distress over your cat. It was not the time to be so uncaring 😞

@EternalFlower

Do you have understanding from doing all the therapies?

What is your sister's work?

My son isn't too keen I discuss him on here. We have had a lot going on.

Hey ho @Dimity @PeppyPatti

Re: Locked out/in

@Appleblossom noted, will not ask again. Was just wandering if he was okay.

I haven't done so many therapies, I had some MBT therapy and in hospital I do art therapy, which I have learned a few fun techniques. I did one with marbles that I really liked - if you look up pushing marble with pen art - i'll try share mine if i can add it in! It was fun.

What i've learnt about therapy (and friendship) is that some ppl are fake and in it for the wrong reasons, and they aren't really suited to being a therapist, or friend. Sometimes I get this odd feeling like the person just doesn't have the counselling skills, interest in emotions, is cold, withdrawn. Those types have never worked for me. I like emotion centred ppl and therapists.

Re my own growth I am so depressed and have very little ambition or hope for the future.

@TAB very kind i'm going to add that to my music rotation!

It's like this https://www.tiktok.com/@karmariecrafts/video/7589870793291566349 - you use a marble and it creates a free flow drawing which you then can color in or paint. I used watercolors but it was fun choosing the colors.....did it at the hospital in our art therapy 🙂

Re: Locked out/in

The marble art looks fun @EternalFlower . I did marbling once in art therapy - very different.

🫂 Hugs re depression and loss of hope, I very much relate.

I guess therapists are as individual as anyone else, but their role and power make it important we recognise when it's not working. Self advocacy can be hard though.
