Welcome and getting started

Isolating

Isolating

Hello.

new here and learning the ropes. I’m 75 finding it harder than ever to meet people that I can relate to.

I probably have CPTSD but definitely have depression and anxiety all my life.

I’m feeling extremely lonely. My only family are my three children and the youngest has recently stopped talking to me for the first time in 34 years. The others are busy.

Last month I went on a trip overseas. It’s had a huge impact on me in so many ways. It’s the first time I’ve been away in many years and I was very anxious about going and now that I’m back, I’m getting more and more depressed.

I also get stressed with online stuff.

@mrmista

I’m sorry I didn’t reply sooner.

I find it very difficult to put my thoughts into written words.

Quite ironic that I joined this group really.

But I find it hard to find someone who I can actually talk to.

I went to India for 12 nights. I had wanted to go since I was a young teen when my sister married an Indian man.

I’ve always felt an affinity with India.

I couldn’t afford to travel until now. I live in public housing and have relied on welfare. I feel ashamed of that and it is an obstacle in meeting people.

My eldest son came with me.

India was amazing. Loud, colourful, crowded, polluted, noisy, smelly and joyful as well as tragic.

I was part of a lovely tour group with a great guide. Luxury (for me, anyway) hotels, delicious food.
It felt like belonging. People liked me, and we all got on well. I got unwell for a few days, but I was looked after very well.

So when I returned home, back to my life, I guess I felt a mixture of lots of feelings. My problems and circumstances, including difficult mental health issues, came flooding in, only louder and much more intense than before. My gp explained it to me.

I saw how people can live when they able to work or have someone providing for them. I guess I had hoped for a similar lifestyle when I got married. Unfortunately, I married an abusive man.

Anyway, my depression has got worse this past week, and I’m wondering if it’s appropriate for me to be on this site.

If this is too much, I’m sorry, but it’s my truth.

I imagine traveling around for months in a van, could have similar issues. I would have loved to travel around like that.

Loneliness is awful.

I loved hearing about your trip to India in the 70s WOW. That took courage!

I only travelled overseas once too. In 1981, however I did 6 months in Asia and 6 months in Europe. My plane to London stopped in Colombo and Karachi. I could not face all of India overland so I skipped India, but overall had a great life informing experience. So similar but different. I had encountered Raj Yoga and the Hari Krishnas already in Melbourne, so had a small insight. I know lots of people on the hippy trail were desperate to get to India, but I enjoyed Sri Lanka and had "interesting" experiences in Pakistan. I guess it was just a practical decision to fly over India.

@Leonie2

Loved that you wrote:

"Fitted in perfectly in Melbourne and London". lol.

Still interested in the straight/ bent concept..lol I am probably too bent in some ways cos I had a complicated family, but not bent, in that I believe in being unethical. Basically, there was little I could take for granted, so probably dont fit in with normies. Though... had a few normie jobs... idk... lol...btw lived in Melbourne a long time... do I fit in??? not sure ...lol

I did not stay long in London, but worked in Brighton

Happy if you want to talk more about travel....

or mental health ....

anyone...

@Appleblossom

I’m confused.

I didn’t go to India in the 70s.

Went last month. In March.

Oh @LexieJo

So sorry

I must have been reading too much on the forum and got my wires muddled. Please forgive me.

So if it was last year, it would be fresh. Wht a great experience. I am too vulnerable healthwise to travel overseas at the moment, but I do live a little on my old memories.
