Welcome and getting started

Isolating

Isolating

Hello.

new here and learning the ropes. I’m 75 finding it harder than ever to meet people that I can relate to.

I probably have CPTSD but definitely have depression and anxiety all my life.

I’m feeling extremely lonely. My only family are my three children and the youngest has recently stopped talking to me for the first time in 34 years. The others are busy.

Last month I went on a trip overseas. It’s had a huge impact on me in so many ways. It’s the first time I’ve been away in many years and I was very anxious about going and now that I’m back, I’m getting more and more depressed.

I also get stressed with online stuff.

Hiya @LexieJo

Yeah places like India and their lovely chaos are so opposite to the old concentrative every thing in it's place Aus.

Sadly sounds like your coming down from your trip with a thud being back, well, on that front anyway. That's pretty common and l often wonder how people cope with the two extremes bc l reckon l'd come home depressed too.

l know there's other huge factors too though for you and l'm sorry about that.

l don't know this forum yet but l'd imagine your depression and problems are what the place is for l guess bc it is a MH forum from what l can see so l dunno, feel free l'd say but the locals ha ha, would know a lot more than me.l've only just joined myself.

l've got a bit of a similar thread going myself, some similar reasons and isolation but a lot more to it .

Not sure if we can mention it here spose they'll delete this if we can't but have you tried Beyond Blue forum , they specialize in MH too and the locals there are also really helpful too if you start a thread about your situation you can talk it through with people. lf that sounds like it might interest you maybe you could give that a try too.

Sorry @LexieJo

@it’s very tough owning up to our mental health

@TAB

@LexieJo @mrmista @Appleblossom @Shaz51 @Dimity dating dillema

I write a letter to the hospital pretty horrified what a consultant diagnosed me after seeing me for 15 minutes

I then very stupidly gave it to someone who edits letters and she cut out all swearing and long diatribes about my siblings and mother

curses 😳😜

@tyme

Thank you.

I feel pretty low. I don’t understand why my son would suddenly cut me off.

All these years he was just using me.

Re: Isolating

Sadly for young and old, there is a lot of "cutting off" people these days. Maybe he will rethink it, and get back in touch. @LexieJo

Re: Isolating

I wonder if your son has his own issues going on?

@LexieJo

I'm not a parent, but I have to say I but my parents off for about 10 years. I didn't speak to them, see them or contact them.

This was not because they did anything wrong. I needed to sort myself out. I was a mental mess and I didn't want family around in case I blamed them for my mental state. I even moved interstate without them knowing.

Then when I felt better, I was able to reconnect with them.

You never know. Is your son just getting his act together?

At the same time, I hear the hurt and grief you must be experiencing. It sensing my parents would've felt the same.

@tyme

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I know my son had a very difficult childhood.

Left his father when he wasn’t quite 3.

His father was abusive in a narcissistic way. Also he caused so many crises and refused to be accountable. I left in order to get an income he couldn’t control.

His father wanted me to come back but when I said no, he became determined to make me pay by trying to turn our children against me.

This son was caught in a vicious custody situation.

I fought like a mother tiger to prevent that from happening.

I believe my son was traumatised by this. This went on until he was 13.

I believe I have PTSD from the marriage and separation alone.

My own fear at the time affected my parenting for which I have made and continue to make amends for. All this as well as ASD has made my son’s life difficult for him.

The thing is that I had mental health problems of my own, and still do. I have been experiencing a lot of emotional flashbacks the past several weeks.

I understand that my son is likely confronting a lot of difficulties. I guess the timing is really bad as I have come back recently from a trip to India. This trip has triggered a lot of my cptsd symptoms and as much as I want to support my son, I am only human and I feel overwhelmed with painful feelings and am struggling to manage.

I love him unconditionally. It’s just that I need help too. I’m not sure if I have answered your question.

Thanks for your support.

Re: Isolating

Hang in there @LexieJo . I hear how hard it is. But fingers crossed that one day, when he is ready, he will return to you.

I hear the trauma he has experienced throughout his tender years. It's not easy.

At the same time, you did what you knew best. You wanted to save your children from the hand of the enemy. This whoel process takes time to heal from.

We are here to support you.

Did the trip to India help? I only recently went for a 6 weeks trip to India. It was a real eye opener.
