I am definitely feeling you there @Blackcloud. We looked for a rental when we received 2 weeks notice to leave the cabin at the caravan park and one of the real estate sites said there were 48 properties available in that suburb and 981 people interested. How can you get selected over all those people.

what the hell how is that even possible??

so sad because many other properties are priced up so high to the point that its unaffordable for literally everyone

and sorry to hear about the vacancy notice @Mustang67 I can imagine that was stressful and a nightmare to be receiving such notices 😞

welp, i'm still scared about having to potentially live in a public/social housing now lol. I used to live in one of those housing apartments when I lived with my parents at the time and I hate to having to live in those types of apartments again

I liked this one @Shaz51 so I had to share it with you.

I discussed counselling with my partner last night, and he agreed that he does need to go, as he can feel that something is not right. So that's a good start.

@Blackcloud I too am on the public housing waiting list. I have only been on it for two and a half years. So, I still have a long wait ahead.

But in reality, because I have a partner that works full time, I wouldn't be entitled at the moment. But I want to leave my name on there in case I am separated by the time a house has become available. Or if my daughter needs to get away from her father urgently. Then I would separate from my partner to enable me to get emergency housing, so she would be safe. That's only if there is any at that point in time.

When we were looking at the rentals, to get anything that would accommodate my daughter as well, we were looking at a starting price of $550.00 per week. How ridiculous is that? I really don't know how people are meant to put a roof over their head and food on the table and still be able to afford the utilities and petrol etc. Especially if they are single. The country is in such a bad place at the moment.

And a friend of my partner's currently lives in a public housing unit complex, and he has a drug user next door. And a few weeks ago, a new female moved in, and apparently her TV was stolen, and she thought it was the friend, so she threw a brick through his window. So, I understand why you would be stressed about moving into an area where things like that was going on.

My niece was lucky enough to get a brand new lovely 2-bedroom house just before Christmas. I have already slept there over one weekend. And because she has a lovely big shower and I need to use a shower stool, I now go there to shower. So, her place is helping me out in a way too.

I know that you have a couple of cats, but do you like the big cats awell?

I love the big cats. My favourite is the black panther.

If you do like them, what is your favourite?

@Jynx I’m finding it hard to get started because my mind is occupied elsewhere. I’m trying but it’s been a struggle.

Re: Sunday Coffee and Chat -- 15th March 2026

@Mustang67 yeah $550 per week is definitely a lot like I don't understand how anyone can afford for that much. In the previous accomodation I lived at last year, I had to pay $500 per week for a room that's only for me, otherwise a shared-room there would be around almost $390 per week. By the time my lease for that accomodation was up, I asked the staff how much the weekly rent would be if I chose to renew the lease, and they said the rent will be $530 per week. So I was like 'nope, I'm outta here!' but even paying $500 per week at that time was stressful too cause that meant I only had the remaining $456 per fortnight left to afford at the time.

Not to mention I'm on the DSP so for me being single is for the better in a lot of ways.

Ooooo my parents used to tell me a long time ago that when we first moved to the public housing apartment just a few weeks or so in (this was back in the early to mid 2000s) we used to have a next-door neighbour who was a drug user and that person would use to come and bang on our door on a regular basis until we had new neighbours that came and move in, replacing the drug addict that initially lived in that door.

That's great to know that you're at least now able to go to your niece's house for showering. It's even better when it looks really nice too.
