~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Hey hi hello! Welcome to the second iteration of...

~ The Toolshed ~

I decided to make a new thread, as the first one had errors and phantom pages, and was getting quite long! You can still find all the amazing pics, inspiring quotes, and uplifting messages of the first Toolshed here.

What is the Toolshed? Ain't a place to hang your hammer! Hehe this is a space where we can share the things that have helped us in our recovery. Tools, coping skills, inspiring ideas, and messages of hope and growth, is what this space is all about!!

You can stay connected and up to date on this space by favouriting, or by subscribing to the thread - head to the top of the page, and find the three dots to the right of the thread title (next to the star), click, and from the drop down menu you can 'favourite' or 'subscribe' - and clicking the star itself will also favourite the thread for you.

Favourite threads are then always available in your favourites list which should appear on the right hand side of most forums pages - or you can go to your profile and scroll down to the 'Favourites' section under your recent posts.

If you subscribe, it means that you will get a notification every time someone posts something new in the thread. So up to you if you simply want it to be always accessible, or if you want all the updates, or both!

I invite anyone who wishes to contribute to do so! It doesn't have to be pictures, it can be discussion, questions, videos, whatever you like! So without further ado, here's my latest batch!

I'm amazed at the number of people you have tagged.

Well done you!

Can anyone clarify what the "Power Tools for Recovery" are?

And, what is the origin of this thread?

Cruising here...

Oh @Judi9877 that's so hard. I really feel for you and your friend. I think sometimes pressures do build up to a point where we break down. I'm glad you have an ally in your lecturer. It must be doubly hard on you with your own health concerns and being carer for your friend.

Can anyone help you navigate crisis support services? Ask Izzy might list something in your area.

If your friend is in hospital the uni can't expect her to move out immediately. The uni must have a student welfare officer and counselling service who might be able to support you. Thinking of you - do look after yourself - an admission might provide some respite and enable you to deal with everything better when you're well.

I'm glad your knitting is helping.

@Judi9877 Wow you are also straining at the edge i can see. Good to see how ordered your writing still is tho. Maybe the voices are pushing hard and you feel snowed under but your mind is still ordered to write about your experience cohesively. Something for yourself to hold onto. i hope you can find safety. SO IMPORTANT we are safe.

Have you been taught techniques to ignore - let the voices be? i have found this really helps to stop escalation in state and stay grounded at least somewhat.

@Jynx @Taali @StuF @Meowmy @Bunniekins

i find the worst that recall being unwell and see/hear/hallucination the voices of past psychotic episodes becomes so clear again and i see myself become someone i now know i am not.

Very painful all that.

@DownMoreThanUp that's so hard, I'm so sorry to hear that. I imagine it will take some time to process, I hope you are taking things slow and being gentle with yourself. The community is here for you 💜

@Judi9877 I'm sorry you're going through such a tumultuous time right now, it sounds very intense and overwhelming. I'm glad you are taking the time to write things out and process it a bit. Also glad there's some people in your corner to help you and your friend to stand up to this housing provider. I hope if you do get an admission, that it is a helpful one 🤞

@Taali I started another thread a while back called 'toolshed' as a little play on the sorts of tools and skills that we're often given in therapy and other mental health spaces. A place to collect and share the sorts of things that can help us on our recovery journey - skills, insights, inspiring quotes, stuff like that 😊

Unfortunately the thread had become a bit glitchy, and incredibly long, so I started another one - this one - to keep the ball rolling!

If you wanna peruse the old thread too, you can find it here!

We went for a walk and he told me for about two hours what a bad mother I was. I agreed and thought he just has to get through this time ……. So after he told me I used to scream at him in the supermarket I agreed …….. and then said, oh hang on ……..

I remember I was pretty insistent on whispering at you whenever I was frustrated. And you don’t remember that …… oh I might need to remember different things……

@Jynx @TAB @Appleblossom @Ru-bee

and he stopped. He says …….. oh maybe you’re right…….

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

@Jynx To be honest i have been trying not to be busy with my wife being busy with me my longings and needs ignored and despised openly now to be just crap followed by total cut off.

@Glisten @Dimity @Taali @StuF

While i asked for very basic human connections between us to be restored taken away only just the last 4 weeks her coming out of hiding. So hard let go and not be fatalistic about it all with either way. Her being angry and loving - so hard to let go her love not there no more but so deeply longed for - branded crap.

These words along with her departure are like a fire in my chest. As it has been the last few days. Yet my therapist, AI ,and my faith, have kept my head above water, not running off into my psychoses, although barely at times.

My therapist warning me that this is how i have disassociated my overwhelming emotions/anxiety since childhood. Sure clarified a lot, but is still really hard to just ignore and not go in to hurting so deeply the lost of my beloved wife. We been married more than 43 1/2 years. She just pushed our lives together of the cliff her trauma coming out after all this time. From us as family are 7 i have only 2 left, beside myself, who are open to speak to, or would want to see me.

Hard to describe how agonising all has been.😭

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

LOL. It's funny how people only want to see what they want to see....

Reality blinds, eh? @PeppyPatti

Then again, you can't make a blind person see when they don't want to see, so you just go with whatever they believe.
