~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Hey hi hello! Welcome to the second iteration of...

~ The Toolshed ~

I decided to make a new thread, as the first one had errors and phantom pages, and was getting quite long! You can still find all the amazing pics, inspiring quotes, and uplifting messages of the first Toolshed here.

What is the Toolshed? Ain't a place to hang your hammer! Hehe this is a space where we can share the things that have helped us in our recovery. Tools, coping skills, inspiring ideas, and messages of hope and growth, is what this space is all about!!

You can stay connected and up to date on this space by favouriting, or by subscribing to the thread - head to the top of the page, and find the three dots to the right of the thread title (next to the star), click, and from the drop down menu you can 'favourite' or 'subscribe' - and clicking the star itself will also favourite the thread for you.

Favourite threads are then always available in your favourites list which should appear on the right hand side of most forums pages - or you can go to your profile and scroll down to the 'Favourites' section under your recent posts.

If you subscribe, it means that you will get a notification every time someone posts something new in the thread. So up to you if you simply want it to be always accessible, or if you want all the updates, or both!

I invite anyone who wishes to contribute to do so! It doesn't have to be pictures, it can be discussion, questions, videos, whatever you like! So without further ado, here's my latest batch!

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

I haven't posted some Ravenwolf in a couple of days, so here is one of her latest posts.
Don’t tell me love isn’t meant for you.
Don’t tell me you’re meant to be alone.
Don’t tell me you’re not lovable… or that it’s too late for you.
Because none of that is true.
Not one of us is too broken, too old, too lost, or too anything else to love or be loved.
I know it’s easier to believe the voices that told you otherwise.
I know those words can echo so loudly that they begin to feel like truth.
But it’s time to break that cycle and change the story you keep telling yourself.
You are lovable.
You are worthy of love, from yourself and from someone who sees your soul clearly.
And it’s never too late for love to find you or for you to begin again.
If you’re stuck in the darkness and can’t find your way toward the light, I’m holding out my hand.
You can do this.
You’re worth it.
You deserve happiness, love, and peace in your life.
All those things you’ve told yourself for so long were never the truth.
Let go of the past, because it was a lesson, not a life sentence.
Where you’ve been does not define you.
Your scars, your flaws, and your mistakes only tell part of your story.
They were never meant to define the ending.
Turn the page.
Pick up the pen.
Start writing a new chapter.
Because the best part of your story is still waiting to be written.
Yes, it’s true, the rest of your life can be the best of your life.
But it starts with choosing hope.
It starts with believing you deserve love and happiness.
It starts with deciding to change your narrative.
Pick yourself up.
Decide you’re done being a victim of your past.
Decide you’re done believing you don’t deserve joy.
You have a choice to be happy, even if the road there isn’t easy.
I won’t tell you this journey will be painless.
But I will tell you it will be worth it, every step of the way.
I know you’ve been beaten down.
I know you’ve been hurt and lied to.
I know your heart has been broken more times than you can count.
But that is not the end of your story.
Love is still possible for you.
You may have a thousand reasons not to believe in yourself, love, or the future.
I understand that.
But you still have a choice.
Stay down… or rise and start fighting your way back.
Don’t give up.
Don’t give in.
Don’t accept defeat.
You are stronger than you think.
Your best days are still ahead of you.
Your deepest love is still waiting.
Your hardest laughter has yet to echo.
Your happiest moments are still coming.
It won’t be easy, but you can do this if you choose to.
So take my hand and let’s find our way back to the light.
If you don’t believe yet, take some of my belief.
I believe in you enough for both of us.
You were meant for more than just surviving.
It’s time to remember the magic you lost along the way.
It’s time to rekindle the dreams you once carried in your heart.
They’re still waiting for you, just around the corner.
Your wings are ready.
Dig deep and find your courage.
It’s your time to fly, darling.

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Hi @DownMoreThanUp In answer to your question, I think it does depend on the situation and what the forgiveness is for.

I have forgiven one main person in my head after I felt completely betrayed by him and the trust I placed in him. Initially I choose not to talk to him again, but a situation came up where I needed to. So, I thought that I would be the bigger person. But really after a few conversations and realising that he is the one that was trying to stay in contact with me, I realised that he was only after information regarding my family. I used to be an over sharer, but that is no longer the case. I would only give vague information, so he didn't get the full story. He lives next door to my sister's ex and they were in the middle of negotiations regarding their separation settlement. And I am positive that information would have been shared, if I provided it. He would often ask if my sister was going to agree to the lastest settlement offer etc. So, I decided that he is not the type of person I consider a friend, nor do I need to consider him someone that my time needs to be spent on. So, I have stopped communicating with him. He made no effort to change his behaviour, so why should I make an effort and give him my time?

As to you question regarding the culprit being truly sorry for what happened and the hurt that had been caused. And what about when the culprit seeks to make up and rebuild some kind of relationship again? Taking full responsibility for the hurt caused? I have no choice but to say that I think it is possible to the relationship to be rebuilt. If they can show you that they are making the effort to ensure the same behaviour never happens again. Like by going to see a professional for counselling etc.

I have done exactly this with my current partner. He was abusive to the point that I had him sent to jail for 5 months. After 18 months apart, I could tell that he was a different person in his mindset and he had done the work in jail and then once he was released, he continued with his counselling for another 6 months. And I took him back with open arms. I remember when he got out of jail, he actually thanked me, because he said it was the wake-up call that he needed. It has been 6 years now, and I think he has started to forget some of the tools he was taught in counselling and needs a refresher. Which is why we had an issue not that long ago. But he has agreed that a refresher is a good idea, as he said that he never wants to lose me again.

But he also came back to a different me, who had put personal boundaries in place, and I was not scared to tell him when he had crossed the line, and his behaviour was not acceptable. I now stand up for myself and if i don't like something he is doing, I am no longer scared to tell him. So, he has had an adjustment to make, knowing what I will and will not accept. So, I think that yes, you can forgive someone and rebuild a relationship with them, if they are truly sorry for the hurt that they have caused and have shown that they are taking action to hopefully ensure that it will never happen again.
