Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@AuntGlow maybe the shame needs some inner child comfort.

I think I’ll need to take it slowly. The assignment I was working on yesterday felt triggering. I also just realised there is a compulsory consent thing to do for uni but I might try to get an exemption. I’m already exposed to a lot of triggers. I guess I could say I feel uncomfortable doing it. I hope they ask no questions

What would that inner child need to hear? 💛

@creative_writer

It must be so tough experiencing consistent triggers. You are doing a wonderful job of listening in to what feels okay/what doesn't.

Setting boundaries as you study could be really helpful here.

I wonder if your friend could help you with this? (when you feel more ready to share) 🫶

@AuntGlow I may not be able to avoid course content. Students are able to get exemption for consent module. The consent module has become pretty standard practice for uni for students across the board. I believe I applied for exemption at my old uni.

I have been able to talk to a friend in my course about it. I just told her I was SA without specifying. My friend was supportive, and was even willing to go as far as providing feedback to course staff members.

It’s a bit challenging to get around course content because there are compulsory elements to it.

@creative_writer responding to message from 7 March lol 🙂

"I do realise PDs have stigma attached, but I’m pretty chill if I do end up with a PD diagnosis."

-- i love your perspective on this! And awareness can essentially mean you can then recognise and address the negative impacts of it 😊🥰

And even if non-diagnosable, trait-awareness is a great thing i think. I try to be aware of myself with regard to what traits in other diagnosis that i relate to - because it gives me awareness and ideas on how to manage it!

"Have you ever tried dimming and setting electronic to night mode? I’m super sensitive to light, especially at night and it helps to minimise light exposure. Too much light at night can trigger mania and affect sleep."

100% yes! I use the "extra dim" setting plus the one blip of lighting on the manual setting on my phone. But at times thats still too bright 😅. Starting to realise this may be "extra sensitive" and not just "normal sensitive"

@AlwaysMyself I don’t know if I have a PD, but many people have traits. I can form relationships if I feel comfortable and I feel secure. I think part of it used to be my parent’s load. But some of their beliefs make no sense to me. My parents, especially mum is distrusting of people. I also don’t believe people with abandon me. If they did abandon me, doesn’t that just mean I need better people? My parents are probably both insecurely attached themselves.

I dim my screens and use a warmer setting. I feel like BP and even ND can make someone sensitive to light.

I’m trying to pace myself with uni and they’re willing to give me an exemption for consent module. I’ll still be exposed to content from my actual course but thankfully don’t need to do the consent module. They didn’t ask questions, it was pretty chill. I am working on distress tolerance with my psych

It’s not real. Why does it feel real?

Hey @creative_writer ,

Anything we can to do make it easier for you? It sounds like there are so many thoughts in your mind.

@tyme the physical discomfort is getting to me. It happens day after day after day. It is a daily nuisance. I must have entered one of those intense bouts. I know once I try to slow down my nervous system gradually, maybe I won’t be as activated all the time. Slowly down nervous system will take regular conscious effort.

I’ve had thoughts popping up, but that is part of the OCD package. Thoughts feed flashbacks and flashbacks feed thoughts

Feeling activated all the time is so exhausting.

And I can totally see the thinking patterns that come with OCD. Do you have support to work through these thoughts with a professional?
