Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@creative_writer yeah totally - no such thing as 'normal' in my books. I think most 'mental illness' is just... humans reacting rationally to the adverse events in their lives. A lot of distress is then compounded into the experience when stigma has us all questioning whether it's 'normal' to be traumatised by something that's... you know.... traumatising.

Yeah it's a rough road but you'll get there 😊 Re-learning is always harder than just learning.

Thanks for the chats hun, I gotta dash! I shall catch you next time 💜

@Jynx we don’t only need to address stigma in the community, but also among health professionals. I’ve been avoiding talking about my ED with old GP, don’t think he will get it. I changed GPs. The words I’ve gotten “You have nothing to worry about”(when referring to my body). It may well intentioned by people but not very helpful. Sure I have a distorted body image, but it’s complex. ED has a very strong control component to it.

I hope you slept okay last night💖. I found it hard to fall asleep, my nose was stuffy. I’m allergic to Melbourne like many others

Hope you've been able to talk to someone about it @creative_writer ?

@Jynx my psych and psychiatrist are aware. I might need to send my psych a reminder message for the paperwork to show to my GP. I did talk to my psych about control being the driver. It’s hard having to walk through the fire to heal. It’s tricky figuring out the balance of saying enough to heal from trauma without retraumatising myself in the process.

I took a walk yesterday and came back sniffing. OTC antihistamine only help so much.

@creative_writer yeah for sure, I hope you can find a good balance in your support 🤞

Ugh I knooowwww I think the back of throat/inner ear itch is what really gets me 😓

@Jynx I hope so too, last therapy session was hard. My psych knows I’ve been avoiding but it needs to be addressed. My body is forcing me to feel. I’m stuck with it regardless of whether I speak about it. Do you think it’ll go away?

I feel like there is a link between trauma and ED. Including smaller traumas, not just big.

Throat and ear itch is the worst. Not sure if mine is 100% hayfever, my symptoms are still super bad even with hayfever. Don’t know if viral is mixed in.

I think @creative_writer that things will shift and change as your relationship with your body does. And yeah I agree, I think ED is often related to trauma on a deep level, and just like addiction it should not be treated in isolation. That's my opinion though.

Ugh yep hayfever gets me making weirrrrrd noises (well, weirder than my usual weird noises) tryna 'scratch' the back of my throat and inner ears 😅

Fingers crossed you're not getting sick!! 🤞

@Jynx EDs sort of feel like an addiction. The brain always wants more. I do hope my body does find peace over time, it’s so hard living on edge. I want to feel safe and secure.

I sort of rub my ears to cope with the itchiness. I make weird noises too 😂. I’ve been looking awful today, though at least the watery eyes has stopped for now

@Jynx I think I got a viral infection. I don't have the best immune system and the weather has been bizarre.

My psych sent in the paperwork to my GP. I have a GP appointment early next month so will pick up the ED plan then. I also found an ED dietician, I had a brief free consult with her on Tuesday. She said gut issues are super common for those with EDs. I think it sort of feeds the EDs, being bloated does not help with body image. I know my mental illnesses and trauma also feed the ED, but you can't ignore the physical aspect. She said that these physical symptoms can also be barrier. It's probably a vicious cycle, ED doesn't help gut issues, and vice versa. I've also realised that I may be doing more disassociation than I realise.

I hope you are having a smooth week 💖
