Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@creative_writer fingers crossed for you 😊. And I'm really proud of you for exploring all these options and being open and willing, and for asking for a recommendation to reduce that burden/stress -- super wise move there! 😍

I'm going to head to bed/sleep. Have to be up for the dog walker tomorrow morning (it's not really early, but I've been finding it a drag to get up). But I can lay on the couch after I get up and whilst the dogs are being walked.

@AlwaysMyself I hope you were able to sleep last night💖. I found it hard to fall asleep, was way too wired. Body discomfort from somatic flashback is a bit better but still there. I guess I’ll have to ride the torture.

I hope you are doing okay this morning 💖. Getting up can be hard. We need to acknowledge how much strength it takes to get up

Thanks @creative_writer . Are you able to have short resting naps later today if your body feels fatigued from the lack of sleep?

My dogs had a good walk.

I've had a very frustrating morning with life-admin. Has put me in an easily-irritable and easily-frustrated mood. I will try to focus on doing what i need to do to prepare for something on Monday until lunchtime. Then i have the first intro meeting with a peer support worker who can do 6-8 visits with me for short-term support (program is aimed at helping with capacity-building for daily activities, but this person is flexible to adapt to my needs which is much more around social company whilst either doing a bit of house work or if im having a bad day going out for a coffee, etc). She likes dogs, which is good because my dogs love meeting people.

Then i can have the arvo off i reckon. Hoping the peer worker visit will be a good emotional-reset from the morning frustrations 😊.

@AlwaysMyself I almost got a normal amount of sleep. I’ve been considering a nap as a means of coping. I’m struggling to sit with my current distress. Sleep can put a pause. I’m not much of a day sleeper so not sure how I would fall asleep. I could try.

Sounds rough with the life admin. I hope your day starts to pick up. I hope the peer support worker meeting goes smoothly. Peer support workers offer valuable insight based on their lived experience. I feel like lived experience is super underrated.

Your dog sounds super friendly. What kind of dog breed do you have? 😊

When you reach out for support only to feel more frustrated. I guess it's just a me thing, I shouldn't be complaining. I know I could try again with the helpline, but I can't bring myself to do it.

@creative_writer just finished up with peer worker. Went well. I have Borzoi dogs.

Sorry to hear about the helpline. Sadly i also know the feeling of sometimes making me more frustraited rather than feeling heard or supoorted.

Want to talk about it?

@AlwaysMyself glad the peer support session went well. I have done peer support sessions over the phone, they can be super helpful. I’ve never tried face to face, but I can imagine it would add a personal touch.

The counsellor eventually put me through to someone else. It was easier to talk to someone more senior. The first one was trying, but it felt shallow and overly positive. Maybe that’s why it triggered me. Trauma is one of those heavy things and you can’t sugar coat it. It’s just been a rough day trauma wise today with my body not feeling right. I didn’t even talk about it much yesterday with my supports, but I’ve definitely been on edge since yesterday. I am cautious with what I talk about because I don’t want to de-stabilise when I’m already very vulnerable. It’s just hard to always control what will trigger me. I’m not even sure what happened yesterday.

I’m trying to fight this constant clatter in my brain. Trying to shake this displaced shame but it’s hard

I will follow your lead as to what is safe and helpful for you to talk about @creative_writer 🙂.

I am glad they put you onto a more senior counsellor when it wasn't helping and they were out of their depth. It can be so hard not being able to talk about it but also so hard to talk about it too! And absolutely about the feeling vulnerable after; I have heard many people talk about feeling that way post-sessions with trauma therapy. And I know myself I feel that way after any time when I have gotten to a stage where I have needed to talk it out with someone and pretty much "broken down".

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@AlwaysMyself not sure if they knew it wasn’t helping. Maybe after realising the complexities, they were wondering whether I wanted to talk to someone for a bit longer. The more senior counsellors have the ability to talk to help seekers for longer. I tried to be polite, but it’s hard to not let the frustration affect my responses, I did respond differently to my usual. Maybe it was a new counsellor who was learning, but it wasn’t a great experience even if they were trying.

I didn’t actually dive into trauma much yesterday and stayed on a surface level. We spoke more about EMDR being an option, we also acknowledged that unprocessed trauma is hindering my ability to make progress. My psych and I have worked on challenging thoughts and behaviourally methods, but it’s not really enough. She does exposure therapy, but that backfired for me in the past. I am more careful around what I share with others about my traumatic experiences than I used to be. I feel like it can be very hard to contain

Is there anything that might help you unwind tonight?

Some poetry?
