Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@Captain it’s always lovely to hear about people’s positive experiences. I feel like negative experiences often get highlighted way more often.

@tyme being ND comes with anxiety, change in routine is super hard.

@Captain and @tyme I was also telling my psychiatrist that timing would be important to consider because it can’t clash with any other commitments. I think that’s also a barrier.

I made barriers too @creative_writer. I had every excuse under the sun. It got to the point that I either chose to go or they would put me in public involuntarily. I chose the voluntary option!

@Captain sometimes you do have other commitments though. I may be able to reassure my parents. However, I do have other commitments at the end of the day. I may not be able to go straight away, I might need to wait a few months. The wait is probably a few months for inpatient anyways

I remember reading an news article and it was saying how emergency and inpatient services are not equipped for ND - it can be so overwhelming for them @creative_writer @Captain24

I wonder how this will change in the future?

@tyme I believe hospitals are very ND unfriendly. The sensory environment is rough. I considered working in a hospital but decided it’s not for me. I could never cope. ND people have different needs. I hope they are able to accommodate in the future. My supervisor on placement made sure I was comfortable sensory wise. I hope we are able to increase the amount of clinicians who are able to accommodate for ND folks

It was overwhelming, very overwhelming but I needed to and wanted to get well. You have your own room so you can go and hide in there. With the nurses just checking in every 2 hours, they just popped their head in the door and asked if I was ok, just a simple yes and then they left. It’s very overstimulating but I guess it’s what you make of it. I wanted to get the most out of it after putting so much pressure fighting it for so long.

Totally agree @Captain24 @creative_writer . The lights, the noise, the activities... a lot is over bearing.

But yes, having your own room is good @Captain24 @creative_writer

@Captain@tyme having your own room would help with the overwhelming feeling. It would give me a place to recharge my social battery. They might be able to accommodate by dimming lights. I remember shadowing a clinician on placement, they had to dim lights for one of the clients.

I admire the staff for being able to support distressed clients, I don’t think I could ever do what they do.

100%. I think that's the beauty of learning more about yourself, you start to realise what matters, what aligns, and what you truly need to feel fulfilled. I know you can have all of this. @creative_writer 💛

I hear you - I think putting hope into this medication working makes so much sense - of course you want it to work! It sounds like you're also wanting to manage expectations, is that right?

How was your walk? 🫶

@AuntGlow maturity comes with age and experience.

I’m just afraid of being let down by putting hope in the new meds. Maybe it’s just that I’ve already tried multiple ways to relieve the pain just to feel stuck in the end. I know it’s possible the meds might make a difference, but I feel conflicted on whether to put my hope in them or not. Maybe it’s the hopelessness of depression.
