Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

I’m trying but it never feels like enough. I don’t know how to feel like enough

What am I supposed to do? I’ve tried therapy, I’ve tried meds. Why am I not moving or progressing? I’ve been super stuck for two months. Is the problem me? Am I doing something wrong? Am I not trying hard enough?

I can't answer that one @creative_writer . I know it's a question many people ask. For me, it was not about trying harder, but trying something in a different way. I don't know what this looks like for you though.

I hear how stuck you feel.

@tyme My psych wants me to re-evaluate therapeutic modality because we appear to be going around in circles. I’m still trying to figure it out. Maybe I need a more bottom up approach. Though I probably need to stabilise before unpacking because last thing I want to do is de-stabilise any further.

My psych wants me to talk to my pdoc about meds and a private admission. She think the instability is also making it hard to make use of therapy at a optimum level

At least this is a step forward. I think what we need to give you credit for is that you actually know and feel that things are working and you are willing and ready for a change @creative_writer That's the most important.

@tyme it’s tricky balancing wanting to prioritise safety but then there are underlying issues that need to be addressed. Maybe it’s focusing on safety first. I’m just a little confused on what to work on in therapy while my resources are limited to staying safe. Behavioural stuff feels super overwhelming and it makes me feel like a failure since there is only so much I can do right now. Maybe it’ll become clearer with time, everything feels foggy at the moment

I completely agree with you and I think it's so normal to want to connect beforehand, it's incredibly important to feel safe and connected. @creative_writer

And you absolutely deserve a career and freedom - what does that look like in your mind's eye? I would love to know! 😍

It sounds like you're setting some really clear intentions around the kind of partner you want - I encourage you to keep holding this in your heart and energy. 🫶

I can understand how hard shame is to hold... I know I speak about compassion a lot, but I wonder if you could explore holding compassion for this part of you, even for a moment?

I hope your psychiatrist appointment goes well - you are absolutely not broken beyond repair at all. I have so much faith that this will shift for you, creative_writer, you're working hard to create change and tend to your needs. That takes a lot of self-awareness and courage - and you're doing it. That's huge. 🥰

@AuntGlow everyone has different expectations, best to get that communicated early. For me personality plays a huge role, I am drawn to emotionally intelligent people.

I would like to work as a mental health clinician. I know it’s going to be a process to get there. I need to grow as a person and professionally.

I could try saying kind words to myself. I think shame requires a lot of work, and often repetition.

I’ll check in with my psych the week after. I’ll see what my psychiatrist has to say on Tuesday. I’ll also try to think about what I need in therapy. I could maybe raise the option of considering a EMDR therapist in my psychiatrist appointment. It’s been hard to talk about my ED in therapy lately because I have a lot going on. I know I also need to work on my body image

I’m about to go to sleep but think I need a good cry. Too much hurts.

Crying is okay and more than allowed @creative_writer.

When we have been through a lot, we feel a lot. And safely releasing it can be really helpful.

I hope you are able to get some rest tonight, but please don't hesitate to check back in if you need us. We are here for you; you're never in this alone. 💙
